Decent show. Producers made a mistake releasing 4 episodes online? Ratings are in the tank and now their are rumors of cancelation
>>
>>64125127

SyFy doesn't know know they have a good show on their hands even if Scorscese handed them his lifetime achievement oscar and said they made some good shit

SyFy would just be like 'eh, we dunno. let's renew HELIX instead'
>>
I just finished watching the first four. I liked it. I hope it doesn't get cancelled.
>>
>>64125127
so when will they release episode 5?
>>
>>64125127
I told /tv/ but everyone was like "naw dude" and I was like "but the shows released weeks, up to a month BEFORE they aired on TV" and they are like "naw dude".

It is fucking bullshit. I've never seen such a convoluted release schedule. They even removed the dates the online stuff was released on the wiki to make it look less fucked up.

I swear, someone somewhere is doing this on purpose just to make it fail.
>>
well the fact that /tv/ barely talks about it is very telling in itself. :/
>>
>>64126439
It will take weeks before TFA shitstorm slows down. I posted this just to see if /tv could even pause for a second between jew posting.
>>
Saw the first episode and it was typical syfy garbage. You have no taste whatsoever.
>>
>>64125127
I watched it and didn't like it.
>>
>>64125751
Jan 5. I think they really fucked the release dates trying to capitalize on TFA.
>>
>>64125747
I think people that don't finish the first four would probably tune out.
>>
>>64126973
The 1st episode is the worst I think. It, like 99% of pilot episodes tries to pander to everyone and really "hook" you. they are typically the most extensively planned out episode of an entire serious apart from the last episode. I too almost didn't watch anymore, but I did because well I don't have a life.

Thankfully, the rest of it outshines the pilot.
>>
Only 600k people watched the 3rd episode. Without a miracle it's done.

>premiering a show when people are busy with the holidays
>premiering a space show around Star Wars

The ratings aren't terrible

Except for in the sense that ALL SyFy ratings are now terrible.

A few years ago Battlestar Galactica, Eureka and Warehouse 13 could regularly pull in three million viewers.
>>
>>64127002
Supernatural's final episode is "January 20, 2016" and the second to last one that was last aired was released on "December 9, 2015" which is a crazy weird way of doing things.

>>64127282
They are counting online and TV viewing, but torrents were in the 400k mark for the 1st episode a month before it aired on TV. A MONTH

I read a few of the books before the show was announced. Poor schmuks like me probably make up the majority of those ratings. I do like the show for the most part. The casting is mostly hit instead of miss. Plot changes are not too rage inducing.
>>
>>64125127
I hope the rumors are true. No one yet ITT has provided any reason to watch the show. All of the pro-Expanse posts are literally "I liked it because I'm better than you".

>No one yet ITT has provided any reason to watch the show.

It is sci-fi, you either watch it or you don't. That is up to you.

>All of the pro-Expanse posts are literally "I liked it because I'm better than you".

I've never really seen that. Its been mostly arguing about the sex scenes plebbing out the 1st episode.

>Good luck, The Expanse. I hope you fucking get canceled immediately

I'm sure it will.

>I hope it makes the participants ITT cry.

I'm sure it won't, but whatever gets you through the day is okay I suppose.
>>
>>64127627
What do you want to hear? The show has a good setting and a nice pool of characters. There's not much tension in the first 4 episodes as it was in BSG, but you can see some nice plots started to unfold.

I liked the three main characters, although they don't feel much real.

I'd say watch it for the universe and what it might become. Or go fuck yourself, that works too.

If there's one thing I like about this show is that there's no pointless drama. The characters have goals and clear motivations, no one is just being a cunt for the sake of it.

Compare this to fucking childhoods end, where 75% of the time was spent on cliche drama that had nothing to do with the plot at all.

Producers are in this zone where they don't even know what people want...in terms of delivery, not content.

How would they know that some people want to watch the show when the season is finished, so you, and others can binge watch. Well that is their problem to deal with.

So much truth in that. Syfy literally makes cheap shows they know will tank. Syfy is stuck in a loop lying to advertisers about the percentage of viewers, and their projected expected audience numbers for new shows that are DOA, out of the box.

Syfy remains decreasing in value but remains barely covering the cost of low production.

syfy/scifi has always been cheap. the biggest difference that i can see, without looking at the budget and viewership numbers, is a change in the tone of their shows. Scifi used to put out comfy shows that were cheap and sort of corny but had broad appeal and likable d-list actors. My uncle liked to watch the Stargate shows with his young sons. Syfy, by contrast, puts out dark edgy shows that are too cheap to pull of dark or edgy, or goofy totally unserious shows like Warehouse 13. It's like they ditched the show template that had broad appeal for two templates each of which had less than half the appeal of the old template.

Arrow and Flash have better choreography -AND- CGI on a network with a fraction of the budget. And the views for both of those rival supergirls, and they have a fraction of the viewerbase.

Have you seen Red Tornado? The literal fucking robot? In the supergirl TV series he's a man in a plastic and cloth suit. They also shilled the fuck out of /co/ when the J'onn episode aired claiming that a horrid CGI Martian Manhunter suddenly undid all the wrongs of the series and that everyone should pick it up.

If the show was on literally any other network (except the CW who could have actually saved it) it would have been canceled after the third episode.

That is one way to look at it, but the important fact to remember is Syfy like any business, or hollywood movie production company goes by a strict code of numbers, and survey data which point for point determines what every show has to have a certain percentage of for whatever is popular in entertainment at the time.
Zombies? Check. Angry teens? Check.
Don't think that any of it is random. They supply numbers to everything they do, and like any broken machine when it has to offer imaginative innovation Syfy simply can't. They do not have the kind of talented group with vision to keep viewers interested.

So, they offer ideas always based on half niche, half open, never too solid, because if they sell a story that is too certain, too specific it makes for a hard product to sell.
Syfy is, stuck in a loop selling half-baked ideas to a "general" audiences that have outgrown that kind of entertainment.
Syfy starts out with low goals, to sell a marketable pleasing product that is doomed.

Why does everyone hate her
>>
>>64138186
Because, I shit you not, Tumblr literally forced the show writers to pair her and Oliver together instead of him and Laurel. She's a mary sue of the highest caliber and always does stupid shit that gets everyone in trouble.

She's honestly not all that bad, but she has her moments of "Please just die already".

And spoilers, she gets shot up hardcore in the midseason finale of S4. If you've ever read batman and know that Babs becomes Oracle, she essentially is Oracle now. They're trying to hint that she's dead, but it's most likely going to be an asspull where she's just crippled and in hiding, and Oliver tells the city that she's been killed so Dhark fucks off, since literally everyone else on the team can take care of themselves.

That being said, show's great, I just hope they go the right path with the protomolecule cause I got the vibe that the ship boarders on the martian battleship were being hinted at as some sort of super-soldiers or something. Flight mechanics are good, ship design is good, Holden looks like a little kid, but whatever, and Jane could carry the show if they do it right.

Also Mormons. So glad they kept the Mormons.

Thank you. My first thought for the role was Steven Ogg after hearing his voice and the way he spoke on GTA V, but he doesn't have the right look for the role. Stanley Tucci, however, is the only person who I felt could find a way to pull off both with a little bit of work. Sam Rockwell never did come to mind for the role; his style's a little too...ce la ve in my eyes, but then again I haven't seen his entire catalogue of works.

well their body lines are slightly flattened / kinda deflated fromt he wight loss. and they have husky musculature built up from carrying all that weight. extra weight messes with your body man. you can also tell when they are at max fat potential. the skin's nicely taught and supple and give off the packed sausage effect, effectively still "in shape". then you get the upper arm bulge then things get wobbly. its pretty much the point where white fat out masses the brown fat.

To me, at least some of the films with the exception of two, he seems to have this air of aloofness and chill radiate from him. Moon and The Green Mile are the two exceptions from what I've seen of his range. I'm just not sure if he can play that tense, focused, and surreal rage that emanates from every waking moment of SJ's existence. Plus I don't know if he could pull off the bald maniacal eye'd look.

Wasn't it SyFy that showed its hand of how desperate they were for viewers and free intellectual property to exploit by announcing they were greenlighting a user-submitted anthology series? Was supposed to be user-submitted prompts and creepy pasta, which would enter into a voting phase, and end product would be two-three episode arcs or something.
Whatever happened to that?

So happy that Warren Ellis, for the next decade or two, will never be hard up for money enough to sell this IP off to be butchered by HBO or receive the Jodo treatment by SyFy.

Still bummed that nothing came of the Global Frequency pilot, had a pretty fair treatment and a fantastic handler. John Rogers definitely gave TNT a lot of bang for their buck with Leverage.

Cable companies in the US have been a fucking joke for many years. They all scramble around looking for dollars. ESPN is in a nose dive and they don't have poker fans to rely on anymore.

I don't know why SyFy took the risk to spend money on new shows. I tried watching a few and lost interest. I like this one though. I hope it sticks. If not, we can start a show on the channel about professional long distance gamers.
>>
>>64142414
I don't think the mainstream media is ready for shows and films that deal with memetic hazards and warfare like the B.L.I.T. Crazy considering shit like that could in fact be made today with just a little ingenuity and financial backing.
What we need is a tried and true writer of Hard Sci-Fi and graphic novels to contract out to HBO or AMC and create an original work.

I never got the television vibe from that book, but it was very satirical pop cult.

Would love to see a miniseries adaptation of The Diamond Age, however. HBO would have to do it because of the NECESSARY underwater fuck bubble computation
>>
>>64125127
Some friends recommended the series to me, so I powered through Leviathan Wakes last week and caught up on the show.

I enjoyed the first half of the book. The world is really interesting with some neat situations and politics that make a good use of the setting. And the characters where fun, and had really good bants with each other. A good bunch of people to fly around the solar system with.

Then the second half of the book happened and dumped that all down the drain for some hollywood action nonsense. Incredibly disappointing.

Unfortunately, the show's writers decided to add some drama between the crew members that wasn't in the book. In the novel, they all know each other quite well from the start, and immediately elect Holden as leader after the Cant is destroyed. I think the new drama is to try and flush out the characters to the audience more, seeing as there is no internal monologue. I also am not a fan of Miller's style in the show, but that might just be a personal thing. I imagined him as an older, no-time-for-bullshit cop. Instead we get some self-righteous prick in a fedora and vest.

Luckily the visuals have been really strong. They've cut a lot of the zero-G scenes for obvious reasons, and I'm okay with that. I wish they had pushed the absolute shock of hi-G maneuvers more though. No-one feels like their testes are being pushed up their throat like in the book.

7/10 It's okay.
>>
>>64142878
I agree with you on the majority. I've read the books and I know Millers story line. I kinda like what Jane is doing with the character. It will only make sense later on.
>>
Book fag here, and I've been following the show for a while before it started.

I don't think they'll ax it after this season. Syfy is banking on this turning into GoT in space. They can't do that unless they're willing to invest some time into developing the show beyond 1 season.

And while ratings might be in the garbage, critically it's doing well. I'd give it another season.

I think that dialogue would have gone over most people's heads, unless you're familiar with the concept of kinetic bombing. In which case it was painfully obvious.

I've only read LW, but I can assume earth gets dropped at some point.

They're all pretty good. Fun popcorn entertainment in book form. Each book has a huge OH SHIT moment in them, save Cibola Burn. They keep building the moments of catastrophic events to the point where I wonder what they can do next. Cibola Burn is kind of annoying cause the crew starts acting all self-righteous when they don't get their way, but Nemesis Games breaks that all down and makes them have flaws, which I love.

>The characters have goals and clear motivations, no one is just being a cunt for the sake of it.

Not to derail this thread (I've never seen the show, but I do have the opening credits of episode 1 paused right now as I type this, I'll start watching it in a moment) but I've never understood the criticism of fiction. If there's one thing I've learned in life it's that people do things that make no sense to others or even to themselves all the time. Not everyone has motivations that can be expressed to or determined by another person. Oftentimes people are just assholes for no real reason other than the fact that they can be without immediate consequence. Sometimes people who are always doing dumb things will even surprise you by making clear well reasoned and well communicated rational decisions every once in a while and vice-a-versa.

Now, I realize that reality and good storytelling can be orthogonal, so having characters start drama and/or do dumb things, while potentially realistic, isn't necessarily good for the enjoyment of the audience. But unless the illogical drama characters cause has zero effect on the plot then it just doesn't make sense to me to complain about it. If people always did what made the most sense then interesting things would rarely happen.
