I saw some HEAVY south korean movie influences in The Martian. Most notably from the movie Castaway on the Moon. In Castaway on the Moon, a guy gets stranded on an island and has to figure out how to grow his own wheat. In the Martian, Matt Damon has to figure out how to make potatoes. Did anybody else notice the almost blatant plagiarism by Ripley here on south korean cinema?

what a mind blowing concept

Almost all post-90s cinema is derived from South Korea. e.g. The Departed, Trainwreck, Oldboy

Castaway on the Moon is an absolutely great movie.
The Martian is a good movie without ANY attention to cinematic details, or significance, the plot is extremelly scientific.

cinematic details like what
I don't think the two are anything alike. Castaway on the moon is a quirky and original romcom, the Martian is a generic guy stuck on a desert planet flick

Artistic shallowness.

that's not any more specific. also, Castaway on the Moon didn't have any interesting shots going for it either
aye well the martian was based off of a novel anyway
