A lot of the Jakku scenes were cool. It was indeed another fucking desert world, but managed to give a very different feel from Tatooine by how different the locals were, and how it became clear that people on the planet made their living collecting/trading scrap. Fuckers were running to go pick up TIE fighter pieces as soon as they crashed.
Also the intro scene was memorable as soon as Kylo appeared. Killed that old guy, stopped the blaster bolt mid-air and let it go later etc. His interrogation of Poe soon after was also good.

I'm glad it wasn't Tatooine, you just can't do Tatooine anymore, it's so overdone, prequels killed it. Used to be a no-good boring backwater town Luke longed to get the hell off of, but because the fans all loved it for nostalgia/meta reasons, it suddenly became party central in the prequels and was like a nonstop festival of fun kooky characters and podraces. Not to mention how awful it would have been to be all "oh look ANOTHER abandoned force-sensitive kid on Tatooine, what does this planet have a fucking factory or something?"

Yeah, Jakku seemed a lot less inhabited and more hostile, like a real desert wilderness, we don't even see a proper town there. Actually, it looked fairly different, it was endless dunes covered in wrckage while Tatooine is more like a barren plain with lots of canyons.

I think it's well done. Especially the second time around I noticed how well the dialogue works both ways. You are totally meant to misinterpret what Kylo is saying the first time around. You might also not pick up on the fact that just when he decides to kill him (but before he does so) the sun is all sucked up and all the light is gone. Kylo's face at that point is just all red.

This movie needed more scenes that were less PLOT ACTION GO and more scenes that actually pulled you into the world. I've always felt that Lucas was pretty good at this. Even the prequels have memorable aspects to them because he values the worldbuilding aswell. TFA was too rapid. It was like a check list of shit they had to cross before the credits rolled. Felt very hollow. I wanted to see more of the worlds and Rey chilling in the desert and Finn being an actual stormtrooper. Wasted moments to see more of the world. The Star Wars universe feels really condensed and formualic in TFA.

It could have been a bit better. Why Finn was there at all is puzzling, this was meant to be a development moment for mainly Ren and Rey, Finn knew Han sort of but I doubt he'd care all that much to warrant two reaction shots during and after. The dialgoue is a bit choppy "I'm being torn apart" being the most odd and out of place line there. Driver and Han act well enough I suppose. The subtle music build that's trying to set the audience up for an anti twist doesn't do its job and the scene would have better without it.
The scene begged for just a typical shot reverse shot of each actor in it, better dialogue, and a better way to get Rey in the scene and frame. Other than its fine and probably one of the better single scenes in the film most because there aren't nearly as many quick cuts.
Any of the "comedic relief" scenes.
They're memorable. Doesn't mean they're good though.
