It's like MGS4 was for MGS fans if it wasn't (or even less) interactive and compressed down into an hour. A mess of dumb, fan pandering shit that is only watchable the first time if you're nostalgic and were impressed by the visuals which are now dated.

I've seen it several times and I still think it's good.
I think MGS4 is a masterpiece and my favorite FF is VIII.
I hate the cryptic dialogue route Square-Enix adopted. Before this shit movie everything in Final Fantasy was really straight forward with dialogue you can expect between normal people.
This turd spawned that convoluted Kingdom Hearts shit.
Never liked it. The story isn't interesting and those gay sephiroth clones are the worst thing ever.

As a movie it completely sucks. But as fan service it's pretty good. My mate and i like to watch it when we're drunk, just for the epic fight scenes.
AC Complete actually makes it work a lot more as a movie. You really don't feel the length of that extra half hour and it helps a lot of the scenes flow a lot better.
It's not bad. It exists. There's a lot to like (Tifa vs Loz, the JENOVA theme) and a lot to dislike (retconning Rufus' awesome death scene)
The little message at the start is sweet, something like :

Ironically, it became very popular with teenage females who hadn't actually played the original

The movie's all there, I would say it's bad, but having the main character and world fall deep into depression instead of moving forward from the growth that occurred in the game was, well, depressive to watch.
A piece of shit too Japanese for me which marked the start of Square Enix degradation into what it is today
