I saw it and it was pretty awful. Really well shot though, it had a gorgeous colour palette which would make for a nice one of those shot-collection images (dunno what they're actually called).

I've never read a review or statement that included the term "middlebrow" or especially the horrific paring "middlebrow set" that wasn't utter worthless garbage.

The way they doled out philosophy namedrops in this movie was bizarre.
They talk about Kant's views on morality which makes sense, but Phoenix is writing a book on Heidegger and Nazis for no thematic reason, and Hannah Arendt is brought up for some reason. And that's it. Why did he need to be a philosophy teacher at all? I think Woody Allen just spent an afternoon in the Barnes & Noble philosophy section and grabbed random books.
