It's not bad, it captured the atmosphere of the character reasonably well but personally I prefer the original 26 movies and 100 episode TV series from the 70's.

I watched it just yesterday, I really liked the first, maybe half or so? After that it seemed to swerve a little. I still though it was solid though. I'm really keen on checking out some older ones in the series now.

I love the Zatoichi films and almost all of Takeshi Kitano's films but I really couldn't stand this.
Watch the original series of movies, they're all on Hulu.
Sonotine and Kikujiro are his best.
Modern masterpiece wich went totally under the radar because Miike did all sort of crazy movies that time.
