the thing I like about Man of Steel is it feels like it's own film, which sets it apart from a lot of other superhero movies. It looks beautiful and tackles themes that are refreshingly not superficial (relatively).
It's not a paint by numbers movie like what Marvel is doing, either, and it really tries to be more (and hey I enjoy Marvel movies for what they are). There were ultimately some story issues (you can blame Goyer for that), but from someone who was incredibly underwhelmed when they first saw it, I think if you watch it again you'll find it easier to appreciate.
