It's weird to think Marvel were so money-grubbing that they actually made up a whole new character just to stop a TV show featuring their OWN character from having a original ideas.

Another case is Batgirl, the Barbara Gordon version was created in the comics to prepare for her introduction in the TV show.
But in any case DC didn't create them to hold rights. Isis was a spin off from Shazam, and later DC just bought the rights for her character.
