Why do you guys like arthouse films so much.
It gives me a sense of superiority

No /tv/ just hates popular things
I love to watch hack auteurs who can't write for shit overcompensate an entire movie
I like being challenged.
I like though-provoking material.
I like seeing things that feel as if I haven't seen them before.
Just to name a few reasons. These criteria aren't exclusive to art films, however.
Why don't you like art house films?

Because I'm too stupid.

Mostly for the kinds of unique stories that you don't typically see in mainstream films. Also i like to look at good photography and arthouse films have the best cinematography, usually. There are some that aren't all about the camera and are more about the performance aspects, acting dialog and such, Cassavetes' films for instance aren't usually much to look at but are great works of cinema nonetheless.
They are interesting
I like them but first i'm exploring american films, noir, old comedies, western etc.
I'm pleb atm

At what point are you no longer a pleb?

Watch On The Waterfront if you haven't yet. It's more mainstream than "arthouse" but still damn good, even if the message is a little heavyhanded.

Because they do shit hollywood movies wont

When you understand the language of cinema and can appreciate a work for it's ability to express something unique with that language.
