I just assumed she was consoling Leia because the retired without Han.

But how did Rey KNOW that was Leia and vis versa. They didn't speak to each or act like complete strangers....I'm thinking I forgot a detail that explains it.

Well, Chewbacca isn't important in any way, shape, or form, so of course Leia would run past the useless walking carpet to comfort the woman she's barely met who is nevertheless the most important person in the entire universe.

It's frustrating when you don't know if the stuff that happens in a movie isn't making sense, or if there's meant to be sense to it except the movie is willingly cutting out all the scenes that would explain it.

We don't know if Leia knows who Rey is, we don't know how she introduced herself to her, we don't know what she instructed Rey to do when she went to Luke, or even what her reasoning was for it to be Rey who goes to Luke (I can't imagine this scene playing out in any way that wouldn't be somewhat enlightening to Rey)

If it weren't for the guaranteed sequels, shit like this would be considered bad. Honestly I consider it bad anyway.

She could've sent her because Rey proved she was force-sensitive, but I think judging by her expression when she met Luke we can assume she knows he's her father

I guarantee whatever revelations we get at the beginning of the next movie will make Rey's scant interaction with Leia make even less sense. What reason would she have to not tell Rey Luke is her father at that moment besides for the narrative impact when she meets him
