There are two kinds of people who hate the prequels

1) Fat neckbeards in their early to mid 40s who feel betrayed by based George.
>"That fucking scumbag screwed us over. I'm not buying any more Jedi robes or lightsaber merchandise."

2) Millennials who grew up with them and later decided that they are 2cool for the prequels

This is very true. I know a guy who loved them when he was younger. We were at a bar once like two years ago and started talking star wars, and he literally started quoting the RLM videos and kept telling me to watch them.

hello there reddit
>>
The prequels were much better written, they had actual characters and story, not a bunch of memes and one-liners that lack any emotion or coherence. Luke is a cliched everyboy "hero" that goes through an absurdly rapid transformation between the fifth and the sixth episodes. Anakin's emotional instability and his exposure as a psychopath are gripping; and his doomed relationship with Padme is touching. In the "original trilogy" Han, Leia, Darth Vader and Obi Wan are complete meme characters, nothing about them is remotely believable or human. And why doesn't anyone care about deaths in those movies? Leia's planet destruction, Luke's stepparents' death, all of the blown up rebels--the list could go on--all the deaths are forgotten moments later.

As for direction, the movies from the "original trilogy" were mostly incoherent, badly edited and full of logical problems. The prequel trilogy is a work of a "vulgar auteur".

I feel neutral about the series overall, and honestly don't care about trolling or contrarianism. Here are my sincere rankings:

1. "Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones"
2. "Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace"
3. "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith"
4. "Star Wars"
5. "The Empire Strikes Back"
6. "Return of the Jedi"
7.
8. "The Force Awakens"

Episode 7 isn't even a Star Wars movies. It is a Marvel flick masquerading as one.

>Episode 7 comes out, is pretty good but not amazing

>Suddenly a resurgence of love and praise for the prequels

The story is fine, but the characters are boring, and every scene is executed and delivered in the most boring way. It never feels real because there is too much fake looking CGI and it's obvious the actors are in a small space in front of a bluescreen. They are shit movies, filled with problems both large (characters, tone, engaging the audience, looking like a videogame) and small (plot holes and other nitpicks).

The only one with any real emotion is Ep 3, but that movie is just a huge boring CGI fest that completely shits all over the lore and feel of the original trilogy, in that Yoda and Palpatine use lightsabres when it was clear in the OT that they both didn't have any interest in them and thought of them as like a childish weapon or something. Yoda never even trains Luke with a lightsabre!

Anyway they suck balls and the new movie is a 7/10. Not anywhere near as good as the OT, but about 100x better than the prequels.

There is a problem in star wars fandom (or hardcore fandom in most cases) basically called "prequel/lucas haters" or "fanboys" it feeds itself by perpetuating the elitist idea that basically half of the whole thing that these so-called fans claim to like is bad and should be boycotted and constantly attacked. It is made up of a lot less actual fans than they would like to have you believe and it has become something of a forced meme in the star wars fan community. DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THESE INDIVIDUALS IF YOU ARE AT ALL NEW TO STAR WARS!

They spend ridiculous amounts of time and energy creating all out manifestos to defend their tired argument that (basically) every star wars film besides the very first two made is somehow/someway bad and wrong and unholy. This small amount of hard core fans is primarily made up of Gen X'ers who have a sad sense of ownership over what they call "their movies", plus pretentious college age hipsters/self proclaimed film experts who enjoy the thrill of being a part of something (in this case an anti-star wars complex).

Haters get to feel smart around other people by "letting them in on the secret" that anyone who enjoys star wars as a saga is foolish and somehow "buying into" some kind of money scheme by the creator George Lucas, who in reality is a hippy philanthropist who has donated more than half his money to charity, education and liberal causes while putting the other half of his money back into the film industry by creating many innovations and trends which go on to be used by almost every other filmmaker in hollywood.
>>
>>64062268
These fanboys (or whatever you wish to call them) have been so obsessive and persistent since 1999 that a lot of reviewers and bloggers for certain websites have fed into it in order to gain hits for their websites and blow up their comment sections. Since the Saga as a whole has been released on blu-ray this trend has finally started to die down because of the fact that the Saga box set sold incredibly well (over one million copy's the first week not counting x-mas sales) despite boycott attempts by the fanboys which were embarrassingly proven by this fact to be in the extreme minority.

These people (and the Trolls who help them) will use a large (and tellingly always different) variety of arguments and basically propaganda to get you to join in with them. They look at people just like you who are new to star wars as practice for them to hone their skills in converting people almost like some kind of cult or gang rather. DO NOT TAKE THEM SERIOUSLY!

The intended way to watch the Star Wars Saga is in numerical order, 1-2-3-4-5-6. No cutting out Episode I or anything like that

You will find that Star Wars, as a whole, a visually and artistically beautiful and cleverly-crafted fantasy series. Something that is as timeless and family friendly as The Wizard of Oz. But if you buy into the foolish prequel hate all you will be is another angry, elitist fanboy with a pretentious vendetta. I know this may all sound silly and believe me it is but I am dead serious when I tell you that you have been warned.

I just feel sorry for the 12-15 year olds (post-millennials) who grew up with Flash, CGI, remake garbage from the 2006-2010 era and don't know better. Anyone both before and after them had/has good stuff to remember.
