I was in a thread yesterday where pretty much everybody seemed to agree it was shit.

It didn't make sense to me.

Nobody wanted to talk about what was in the film that bothered them. It seemed like everyone wanted to criticize what they think SHOULD'VE been in the film. Stupid shit like 'it should've been more political' or 'it needed more plot and less characters'

I guess some stupid people thought it was supposed to be something else entirely.
>>
Great movie. Top tier camera work.
>>
Isn't Josh Brolin too short to be an operator? Like how did he get accepted in the CIA?
>>
>>64047270
i think the movie could have been better if it was 30mins longer

but it's still really good in my eyes.
>>
>>64047308
I don't know, How the skinny white guy got in? Seriously from all the characters he is the less one who looks the part. Even black FBI guys buff and looks like he could be in the arm forces.
>>
>>64047270

It was trying to be two things, a action revenge flick and a serious film about the cartels. Since what it had to say about the cartels and CIA was neither shocking or original it should have just been an action revenge flick where Gary stu takes down the cartel.
>>
>>64047308
hes probably a few levels above operator

"middle management" of some sort
>>
>>64047634
>takes down the cartel
so then you wanted it to be a generic hollywood action film...youre pure cancer man. broaden your horizons. this movie had a pretty unique angle on an overused topic
>>
>>64047634
See that's where I disagree. I don't think that it was supposed to be a hard hitting expose on the Cartels. I think that was merely a backdrop
>>

>>64047086
This. If you didn't see it in theaters you missed out.
Those long cinematic shots with the grim music gradually building in the background was amazing.
>>

>a backdrop

A backdrop to what? A shitty revenge story?
>>
¿Pregunta paisano, quieres morir?
>>
>>64047808
that the focus wasnt on how the cartels is bad, and the govt simply as the good guys..the govt had a real dark and nasty angle that the general public would dissaprove of...and even though there were shootouts, they felt realistic enough (as opposed to michael bay trash or others). the focus was also on her practically being played for a pawn in their dirty scheme instead of just wasting the bad guys and then the good guys go home. No real happy ending. just something that made the main character see that the cartel war isnt so black and white. At least thats my take on it.
>>
>>64047308
How tall is Brolin anyway? He looked shorter than Blunt.

Well considering the US government has tried so hard to sweep this shit under the rug it's not entirely implausible that even the most basic handling of this context is shocking to some viewers who have been oblivious to what goes on on the border

but more elaborate:

1. go mexico (having learned fluent spanish)
2. set up many safe houses. must do this first, number one priority, filled with food and guns and ammo
3. wage war against local narcos, torture your way up the food chain until you find out where local boss hides out
4. dont be rambo, youre not. just blow the place up with them all inside.
5. lie low in safe houses (move around) as corrupt police will be after you
6. rinse and repeat in the next city/town/barrio/whatever
Lacia will eventually come for you, either to kill you for disrupting their drug trade or to recruit.

good luck, anons!

The cartel guys say "medellin" because they recognize him, or maybe atleast heard stories about him, so it's not the first time he's gone after the mexican cartel. That's why the boss at the end refers to him as the grieving lawyer.

Blunt doesn't understand it because she didn't know (or maybe she couldn't comprehend) the CIA were collaborating with the medellin to carry out hits on the mexican cartel

paisano, -na adj./s. m. y f.
1 Se aplica a la persona que ha nacido en el mismo lugar que otra. compatriota.

In other words, it's the same as "compatriot", but since Alejandro wasn't Mexican, I believe he either was trying to pass as one in order to convince the guy to let it go or he used the term as in "we both speak Spanish".
>>
>>64051068
Alejandro was Mexican. He was a prosecutor whose family was killed by the cartel so he went to work for their rivals, the Medellin cartel in Colombia who then loaned him out to the CIA.

living in MExico for my entire life and seeing this makes me smile. They made it hyperealistic. (maybe the Alejandro superkiller from colombia is farfetched but somehow plausible).

There are house found in Mexico filled with bodies, There are police that actually try to do something against them but they eventually get killed. This movie showcases pretty good the scenario in Mexico. This for trying to appear a hypocrite war on drugs that US dumps on Mexico. If you want real life proof of US operations in Mexico investigate "Rapido y Furioso" with Arizona authorities smugling weapons to Mexico in order to locate cartel leaders.

Very nice looking movie too, but I feel like in part they overdid it.

The scene where the soldiers walk into the sunset is beautiful, then in the moment when the first soldier enter the cave and you see his silhouette with the blue night behind him I thought it was perfect.

But then he pulls out his knife and slowly carries it into the camera and I thought they went too far.

>in a literal warzone with men dropping left and right
>muh procedure
>muh moral high ground
>I'm telling the president on you

what Brolin said

Unless people stop taking drugs, all the bureaus and agencies can go for is a certain kind of order that can be controlled in a way.
that's not achieved by alejandro having his vengance.
they try to take out the turf war waging drug lords and install a big cartel like medellín was back in the days or after it the cali

THIS IS KNOWN AS AN INSTRUCTIONAL CHARACTER

SHE OBJECTS TO THEIR WOLF TACTICS THE WAY A STRONK INDEPENDENT WOMYN WOULD, AS THE 2015 SOCIAL JUSTICE AUDIENCE THAT IDENTIFIES WITH HER EXPECTS BOTH HER AND THEMSELVES TO REACT

THEN AT EACH OBJECTION THE OTHER CHARACTERS IN THE MOVIE TEACH HER HOW THE REAL WORLD WORKS, WHICH IS ESSENTIALLY CORRECTING THE PERCEPTIONS OF THE 2015 TUMBLRIZED >MUH JUSTICE AUDIENCE

Mireles let it happen. Not only did he let it happen, he did nothing to stop it once he knew it was all going downhill. He put Papa Smurf in power, and was too busy fucking whores to care about anything else.

Ran off and went into hiding as his organization became what he vowed to destroy. Complacency undid him, and his apathy and selfish desire to hide and ignore what he had wrought is what is keeping him in the jail cell.

>>
>>64046929

Production values were top tier.

Acting middle of the road.

But story was illogical and outlandish. For instance, the entire prisoner retrieval operation near the beginning was ridiculous. All they had to do was fly a helicopter in, pick him up and fly him to the US. It was idiotic. And the female FBI agent who seemed like the protagonist NEVER DOES ANYTHING except ride along and look mad, dumb and confused. Never seen a worse protagonist. And the CIA can't find a huge cartel leader who lives in a massive mansion right near the US/Mex border??? Insanely stupid. And they've got Delta Force as their hired guns throughout the whole movie, yet it's just Benicio Del Toro raiding the mansion by himself with no backup and killing all those guards like he's in a video game??? Retarded. Really, kids, this is a really really bad script.

Well, okay, I guess that's right, but I don't think that makes him two-faced. He at least always had good intentions and did well until his accident. Then he just became complacent like you said. He basically gave up.
>>
Mexican Cartels and Cartels/Spanish Drug Lord Lore shit interests the hell out of me to begin with, not to mention a collaboration between BASED Vileneuve, Benicio, Brolin, and Deakins; 4 people who I already respected the hell out of.

Of course this movie has faults, literally every movie does, and every movie ever made always will. It's probably a 8/10 after a few viewings but that first time in the theater when I had no idea what to expect was 10/10. Great shit desu senpai.

He was two faced, he sold himself on doing all of this for his family and his people. In the end his wife, who took care of him as he was a fucking invalid was cast aside for a slew of whores, and his people were subject to his organizations looting and kidnapping.

He's two faced. His intentions mean nothing.

It's pretty bad movie. The sort of respectful exploitation movie you make to politely address a 'hot topic'. Everything about is slack jawed and limp dicked and it goes around too much in Deakin's terrible repetitive cinematography instead of trying to go into the characters mind, pinnacle of this is the pathetic 'time to meet God' scene

HE'S LETTING HIMSELF BE VULNERABLE BY NOT KILLING HER, SHES FLOATING AROUND COULD BECOME A WILLING OR UNWILLING INFORMANT FOR ANY OF HIS CARTEL RIVALS, COULD TRY TO NARC HIM OUT ON THE AMERICAN SIDE AND BE A WHISTLEBLOWER

EVEN LETTING HER DRAW ON HIM FROM THE BALCONY, WHEN SHE THINKS AGAIN ABOUT HOW HER CAREER JUST GOT COMPLETELY BURNED AND HOW SHE GOT TOTALLY PLAYED
