Cons:
Struggles to set stuff up. You can tell they knew what they wanted in and didn't know how to get it there
Way too fucking fast from the get go
Carrie Fisher is the only cast member who doesn't work
Pros:
Second half is pretty damn solid
Rest of the cast and characters are great
Takes advantage of film as a medium probably even better than the OT

I was really trying to ignore a lot of the shit, until they got to the plan to destroy the new death star. The writers and everyone else just gave up and decided to mock the whole thing. They just happen to have the schematics in full detail without explanation and the janitor knows where to pew-pew it to destroy it? And Han figures out how to penetrate the force field by going lightspeed through it.... well, why not just hit the whole thing with a thousand faster than light nuclear projectiles? And so much more bullshit.

What's really fucked is that I saw this movie in a nearly empty theater last night.
