Awesome movie, except for a few things:
- Kylo Ren was too much of a whiny faggot to be taken seriously as a villain. Even Anakin Skywalker came across more menacing than him.
- The Snoke CGI was so jarringly and laughably fake, like Voldemort from the first Harry Potter movie. He should have been played by a real person in prosthetics, as was the Emperor in ESB.
- Rey being the biggest Mary Sue in cinematic history:
a) Instantly knowing how to use the Force when the plot needed her too. How did she know how to to the "Jedi Mind Trick"? How did she know how to pull the lightsabre to her? Even Luke, who was actually studying to be a Jedi at the time, couldn't do these things at this level. She's basically Mastered the Force in a day.
b) Even in a lightsabre duel, she was evenly matched in strength and skill with Kylo despite never having held a lightsabre before.
c) Her posh "Keira Knightley" voice was really grating.
d) Knowing every technical detail about the Millennium Falcon better than Han Solo, and being just as good a pilot as him (performing death-defying aerial stunts and maneuvers to evade two TIE fighters despite never having flown it before. Must be the Force or something).

Kylo Ren was fine and I liked that it's basically him being "seduced by the light side" the opposite of Luke and Vader
But
He should have wrecked Rey at the end and she only escapes because of the earth quake and last second save by chewie
>>64037742
it's truly amazing when you make an exact copycat of the OT and bring back characters we already know but even then your flick doesn't really feel like star wars.
>>64037742
kylo was the best thing out of the movie
>>64038899
this shit is so disturbingly evil, it gives me hope for him becoming a top 10 star wars villain by the end of the series(provided he doesn't pussy out and join the jedi)
>>64037742
>Even in a lightsabre duel, she was evenly matched in strength and skill with Kylo despite never having held a lightsabre before.
She is probably a mind wiped jedi or extremely force sensitive.
Other than that she was already an experienced melee fighter.

>Snoke cgi
It was a hologram you fucking mong. Try watching the film next time instead of playing on your phone.
>luke uses the force to destroy the death star when he only learned about the X wing 20 minutes ago and learned about the force less than 24 hours ago
>nobody calls him a mary sue
>like Voldemort from the first Harry Potter movie
but that was good desu senpai

No shit. It still looks bad. Doctor who bad
>>64039021
he's still never flown the ship before and somehow pulls off all kinds of maneuvers, seems like a mary sue to me
Does anyone have the pic that shows how ep 7 has the exact same plot as 4? It describes the plot of episode 4 with some of the words crossed out and replaced with episode 7 characters and locations
>>64038945
>provided he doesn't pussy out and join the jedi
that would be the biggest fuck in in quite a while.
>Show me again the power of the darkness, and I'll let nothing stand in our way. Show me, grandfather, and I will finish what you started
you just killed your own father come on.

>b) Even in a lightsabre duel, she was evenly matched in strength and skill with Kylo despite never having held a lightsabre before.
kylo was injured as fuck and troubled.that was basically ''use the force Rey''.the rest is true she already a too good pilot, and know so much about the force that i even wonder what luke will teach her.
i want to see poe more developped cause he doesnt seem to have a flaws except for like being really cocky to the enemy.finn better becomes a top tier shooter and GIVE HIM A BATON.bring phasma back and no more death stars.
>>64039190
we all know that ep 7 plot is a rehash of ep 4 tho
>>64039242
Some of my friends are in denial though and I need to show them it, I can't find it on google
>>64039089
It was supposed to be bad cgi. Snoke is pulling a wizard of oz.
Now that you mention it...Why was Snoke motion captured?
It was a hologram, so doing a projection type effect that doesn't involve interaction with the actors/background is fine and the design itself didn't really lend itself to requiring mo-cap. It's just a dude with a gnarly scar.
In terms of Kylo Ren...I can't see him being a "real" villain. Something more akin to Anakin, although with some forced Poetry where he comes good.
Rey wasn't the biggest Mary Sue in cinematic history, and technically speaking she's not one by the strict definition. But yes, she was an extremely boring character.
I was more pissed with the pacing. Moving from Action Set Piece to Action Set Piece, instead of letting us have more character time AND really using their imaginations and film time to create a dense/interesting/believable universe, like the O.T.
This felt like a stripped out store front.
Compare Maz Katana's palace/planet to the Mos Eisley or Jabba's palace scenes. So empty and indistinct.
>>64039328
>Why was Snoke motion captured?
Because it's a movie utterly bereft of any sort of artistic input or soul. JUST CGI MY SHIT UP
>>64038899
>mfw he wore the mask literally just because he's a darth Vader fanboy
>>64037742
>He should have been played by a real person in prosthetics, as was the Emperor in ESB.
Actually the Emperor was originally some woman with chimp eyes composited onto her face, not prosthetics.

now that JarJar hackbrams aways things can become originals.

>Knowing every technical detail about the Millennium Falcon better than Han Solo
She mentions the modifications made by her boss who is also the guy she was left with when put on Jakku. She obviously did some work on the Falcon with/for him.
And it was obviously the force that helped her, just like Anakin was able to pod race.
Finn even asks how she did that and she is like "lol dunno senpai"
She was being guided to the lightsaber the whole time, and that flashback imparted some knowledge of the force to her which aided her later on.
>>64039420
if the OT had been made today EVERYTHING would be CGI and you know it. That's what lucas wanted all along. They worked with what they have.
Shit, it's a blessing that there's as many practical effects in this movie as there are.
>>64037742
>- Rey being the biggest Mary Sue in cinematic history:
Biggest in history? No, but a painfully large one all the same.
I'm convinced the only reason she didn't snatch Kylo's saber out of his hand and cut Snoke's head off was because Snoke simply wasn't there at the time.
She's Anakin 2.0, perfect at everything she attempts the first time without even breaking a sweat. Kylo Ren may have been trained by Luke Skywalker and Snoke personally, but Rey could beat him in a mind clash and lightsaber duel without even getting scratched. Better in combat than a "from birth" trained stormtrooper, knows more about the millennium falcon than Han Solo, better pilot than everyone else, and will probably spend the next movie teaching Luke about the force.
And she's likable too! She's not a snotty kid like Anakin or a dweeby farmboy like Luke. She's a true friend to everyone instantly, and gets a hug out of Leia because she knew Han Solo for a day or two. Chewbacca decides to fly her about in her new ship because even though they only met a few days ago, he knows she's a really, really great replacement for Han.
Spoilers and leaks indicate she's going to be Luke's daughter by some method which will probably lead to her being x1000 stronger in the force than anyone ever for no particular reason.
The fact that she's never in any real danger, never harmed in any way, has no personality flaws at all, is a 90 pound pretty white girl that beats up grown men, and is better at everything than every other character instantly is the major downside to the new movie(s) and I think it's already too late to fix it.
>>64040267
she could regain her memories of being Revan, kill finn/chew/.., and become the main app
>>64040267
The only way to fix her character at this point is make herhave been mind wiped and left on Jakku because she was dangerous and too powerful and being tempted by the dark side. Enter the KOTOR rip off, but yeah , her being evil is the only thing to save this shit.
>>64039190
This one?
>>64040413
>>64040423
It would at least be something.
It would be part eight's ultimate dark point. Ren and Rey are both ebul jedi that kill Snoke together and it's up to 'literally who' to stop them. And to get the Game of Thrones audience, and to throw back to the OT, they're kissing cousins while they're at it.
But I don't think disney has the balls for that kind of thing. These aren't the prequels, but these movies still are designed to sell merch to kids so Movie Bad Guy is going to fight Movie Good Girl who will easily kick his ass.
>>64040267
Would you have preferred it if Rey was some weird, autistic girl who was great at everything, but really fucking bad at talking to people/not being weird?
>Awesome movie
>>64040627
That would have been something.
I actually would have preferred her to just be a normal person bounded by her circumstances.
Let's assume she's Luke's daughter, abandoned on Jakku when she's about 4 because fuck her. So when the movie starts she's in her late teens/early twenties, she's grown up in isolation on a desert planet where she's learned to pick through junk for food.
She wouldn't be good at fighting, or flying starships, or much of anything other than taking things apart, maybe. She would have terrible social skills and would probably be more like a jawa than a human. That's how you'd expect someone in her circumstances to turn out. Start adding "she's force sensitive" or whatever and I guess you could shift the traits a little, but Luke was force sensitive out the ass and he wasn't half the instantly "likable" hero Rey is.
But again, yes. I would have preferred her to have some character flaws of any type, so if the trade off is "being perfect at everything" with the downside of "slightly awkward" it would be better than what we got.
>>64040893
I thought they did an alright job at setting up the fighting aspects of her, the place she lived was very hostile and she'd have to have good fortitude to survive as long as she had.
The only part that i thought was a stretch was when she started using jedi mind trick. She's the Hero character, she's supposed to be good at everything and defeating the villain through the power of friendship and togetherness and all that shit.
I think the real problem people have with these movies is that they're expecting an intricate complex story with characters that aren't morally clear cut, with multiple character flaws.
>Rey is the Hero
>Finn is the Sidekick
>Kylo Ren is the Dragon to the main villain
>Snoke is the man behind the curtain.
Ren will probably be a good guy in the end but i imagine he'll be killed off like Vader in Jedi, can't have him kill Han in a family film and have a happy ending.
I do think they should have made Daisy work out a little more before the movie, she did seem really petite, at least when compared to the other cast members. But then again the lead always has to be attractive unless you're trying to prove a point about inner beauty.
