Why hasn't anyone mentioned the most far-fetched aspect of TR-T8?
Everybody's talking about the fact he was given riot gear rather than a blaster.
But why isn't anybody mentioning the fucking fact that his riot gear could withstand a fucking lightsaber?
The lightsaberproof materials in star wars are ridiculously rare and exotic. Is it standard issue for all riot batons? Which are meant to be used against space peasants, not angry people with lightsabers (gosh, there weren't even any people left with fucking lightsabers in the galaxy aside kylo).
Like, I could understand the first order getting their hands on some of it, but it would surely be used to craft ARMOR or ships for VIPs, not fucking riot batons.

Can we agree the writing was problem #1? It's very clear Lucas didn't do it. For all of his gaffes in terms of dialogue, he tried to keep his universe consistent. So much of this was inconsistent.

I think JJ decieded to make the lightsaber less leathal here.
Before they cut everything like butter. in TFA they arnt as "sharp"
like when Kylo goes nuts in that room and starts slicing at the room, he doesnt cut a hole in the wall.
when he jams his hilt on finn, it doesnt take off his shoulder.
when ray pokes him in the shoulder it just leaves a smouldering cut.
when ken slices finns back, he doesnt get sliced in half.
when rey gets kylo in the face, you can see that the blade followed the curvature of his face, it didnt just make a straight slice in the direction of travel.
basically the light saber has been toned down. it doesnt cut through everything like it did before, when it hits an object, it has obvious resistance.
so with that in mind its possible that some electric cattle rod can resist the blade for a few hits.
i like this, the light saber isnt some magical weapon anymore that can slice robots in half with a single swing.

Swords literally have no advantage over firearms, unless you're at 1 ft from your opponent.
The whole appeal of the lightsaber was that it could cut through anything.

The point of the lightsaber isn't that they cut through anything, it's that they're a visually dazzling weapon that up until the prequels served every single scene they were in flawlessly.
Once the prequels came, the weapons became inconsistent and vague and impractical despite their variously overpowered natures.

The idea that lightsabers can only be reflected by rare but naturally-occurring materials ignores the fact that they are literally technology.

1: The large pipe in Empire that vader slashes isn't blown to the side at all, his lightsaber just scorches the outside.
2: The floor of the Carbonite freezing chamber didn't even spark or smoke when Vader's saber hits it.
3: Vader performs a slash for Luke that hits the wall of the instrument panel and doesn't destroy it.
4: Vader performs a second and third slash against a wall in the shaft that isn't even scratched.
5: Vader's slash is deflected into a railing on the bridge which simply smokes.
6: This happens on a completely separate railing which is dented.
7: This happens a THIRD time when they both smash their swords against a railing, and they both bounce back up
8: This happens a fucking FOURTH time, and Vader's saber is bounced back up.
9: Vader's shoulder is cut and simply sparks when Luke is following through with his slash.
10: In Jedi, Luke's saber bounces off of a railing when swinging at Vader full force
11: This happens a fucking second time.
