That's what makes Jedi hard to pin down. It's got some of the best moments in the entire OT but also some of the weakest. It completely botches Han and Leia but Luke is fucking badass. Sure there's another Death Star but it's the b plot this time, like those episodes of Star Trek or Buffy where the day is saved in the background while the character stories get the focus.

The originals. The Force Awakens is okay, but so generic and hardly memorable I can't call it better than Return of the Jedi even if it's a more competently assembled production that avoids stupidity like the ewoks. Even though there are considerable portions of Return I'd just as soon skip, there are also parts that I enjoy rewatching. There's nothing in The Force Awakens I really feel the need to see again.

Absolutely. Luke vs Vader and The Emperor is as good as anything in Empire. Jabba's Palace was great because everyone had something to do and it displayed Luke's progression since Empire so well. The space battle is still the best out of all of them. It's not consistent quality like the rest of the OT but it's peaks are very high.
