depends what you think the most damaging the to nerd culture is. do you like originality? whedon's done tons of original stuff. jj is way more derivative and has made a career out of just doing what's come before. 'Spielberg successor' etc. jj's route is the way of derivative popcorn blockbusters that are all loud noise and spectacle but are increasingly thin character wise. he does nothing original and the only thing that is 'typically' jj are those stupid fucking dolly shots where the camera is always moving around a character. oh and lens flare.
abrams is very much in the hands of big budget hollywood studios who like abrams because he makes safe films that always do well at the box office and make them a lot of merchandising money
