The Republic is losing control due to the corruption and impotence, and a renewed Empire is at hand. Finn, former child soldier in a Republic death squad, deserts after orders to purge a village that supports terrorism, and by chance gets mixed up with revolutionaries of the First Order. He and tormented Force warrior Kylo Ren search for the old heroes of the Rebellion so that they can together bring true freedom and justice to the galaxy, all the time hunted by the monstrous Jedi prodigy Rey.

The movie starts roughly the same way. Poe gets the map from some random dude then he gets his butt captured by Kylo Ren and freed by Finn.

Rey is living with her old uncle (who she thinks is her father) who looks after her. She is a fairly useless girl, pretty bad and clumsy in everything, but her uncle always helps her out. She wishes to be a starfighter pilot or something but yeah, keep dreaming girl.

Rey finds BB wandering in the desert and immediately thinks that the droid can maker her dreams true somehow. She gets into trouble however when the other scavengers try to steal the droid from her, and she get her butt kicked pretty badly until Finn arrives and saves her.

Airstrike happens, and the two is bailed out by Rey's uncle. He takes them to the wreck field where they find the Millennium Falcon. There, they also stumble into Poe who is already repairing the ship. Poe/Finn reunion scene, and Rey kinda forces herself on the two by telling them that she is a great mechanic. She isn't, but her uncle is, and they fix the Falcon. The New Order attacks as they take off and Captain Phantasm kills Rey's uncle. Chase scene ensues where Poe pilots the Falcon, Finn operates the gun turret and Rey sits tight, mostly because Poe treats her like the piece of useless crap she is.

The team makes a wacky escape, and decide to scramble straight for the Resistance base. However, Rey accidentally breaks the hyperdrive while Poe and Finn play that chess-like thing in their downtime, and the Falcon gets stranded in space. A Republic frigate eventually picks them up and takes them to a star station.

The star station is governed by the retired Han Solo who is first distrustful towards the trio, and almost jails them for stealing the Millennium Falcon. Poe and Finn try to smooth-talk him, but they fail horribly. Then BB reveals the map to him, and Han decides to come out from retirement and help the younglings.

Han takes the trio to some sort of temple where Luke's only living disciple (the orange alien with the glasses) lives. She wasn't kiled by the New Order because her bodyguard is Boba Motherfucking Fett. Boba is now an old warrior who joined the good guys - he is well past his prime, and his age really shows on him. He has a bounty hunter daughter somewhere off-screen who makes sure that he will never get into trouble (like, she disabled his blaster and stuff). Han and Boba welcome each other like old friends, just to confuse the old fans.

Here, Rey breaks down to Boba, and admits that she knows way too well that she is a piece of useless crap, and her dreams will never come true because of this. Boba comforts her with saying that maybe she is just trying the wrong things. This really inspires Rey and her heightened state of mind let her feel the Force and find Luke's lightsaber. Visions, the orange alien tells Rey that she has a big destiny, stuff like that happens. Then the New Order attacks the temple and our heroes must run away again. The orange alien dies, and Boba Fett sacrifices himself in some really badass manner so that the good guys can escape.

Too bad that Kylo Ren still manages to capture them with his star destroyer as the Falcon leaves the planet. Han fabricates a plan to escape, exploiting the fact that even the bad guys think that Rey is useless. Like, he hides a bomb in her bag or something. The heroes make a quick escape thankfully to Han's trick and Rey's blossoming Force powers.

They travel to the Resistance base where everyone prepares to the attack against the Starkiller Base. Rey, Finn, Han and Chewie infiltrate the base and lower the shields (Rey mind-tricks Phantasm to do it), while Poe&co attack from the outside. In the end, Rey truly finds her inner gift as she beats Kylo Ren, saves Finn's butt and remote-guides Poe to destroy the base.

Generations after Return of the Jedi, Luke successfully revived the Jedi Order and Jedi are once again a presence in the Galaxy. However, the Sith are still survived. A young scavenger, talented and eccentric, wins a Sith relic (possibly Darth Nihilus mask or lightsaber) in a gambling bet. Neither the loser nor the winners knows the device is of Sith origin. A Jedi who has been tracking the relics whereabouts confronts the scavengers at the same time a Sith Apprentice and his soldiers discover its whereabouts and aids the scavenger in his escape. Upon learning that the scavenger doesn't know the importance of the relic but refuses to hand it over the Jedi must confer with the Council on what action to take. The Council agrees that they cannot rightly take the relic from the scavenger as it his rightly his property but decide to order the Jedi who found him to travel with him to ensure the relic does not end up in Sith hands and that the scavenger does not use the relic for wrong. Through out the next two movies we would watch the scavengers development of force powers and his actually played out struggle to decide whether he believes in the light or the dark side of the force. The Sith have dropped the Rule of Two and have adopted a stricter form of training similar to the Jedi Academies.The relic attempts to push the scavenger toward the dark side through out. Pacing will be well done and the lightsaber fights extremely carefully planned and choreographed to not be stupid non-sense, I already have a cool idea in mind for the first lightsaber fight, which will be relatively one sided against the heroes.

The FO returns to secure the macguffin on Jakku. Finn is involved with the raid. Here he can't bring himself to kill civilians and starts to question his belief in the First Order.

And to be brief, Finn breaks Poe out. They steal the Tie Fighter and escape, getting shot down fairly early (no heroics from them either). They crash land on Jakku and travel together to find BB8 (Poe can track him somewhat). There we're introduced to Jakku (a formerly temperate world that's been ravaged by the end of the Galactic Civil War and is turning to desert). Eventually they come across Rey and so on and so forth this is too much work.

Also the FO should be a proxy Imperial Remnant force like the Resistance is a proxy Republic force. So they still exist locked in a cold war.

I would keep the same basic plot (I liked the movie a lot) but

>Starkiller isn't destroyed at the end, but it is prevented from destroying an important Republic starsystem

Overall I'm happy with how it turned out, hopefully the sequels don't go full retard or too safe.

Multi-parter:

The movie starts with a daring chase. First Order cruisers and TIE Fighters are descending on a lone Resistance ship headed for Jakku. The ship is captured and the crew interrogated. They're looking for two people; Han Solo, who's said to be in the system, and Luke Skywalker, who nobody has seen for 20 odd years. Poe Dameron makes a quick exit in a lone X-Wing, destroying a few TIEs on his tail and blasting off into hyperspace towards an unknown destination.

The crew has no idea where Solo is and are subsequently executed, Finn participates, but after the massacre is flooded with voices in his head. They're mostly screaming and crying, but one voice tells him he has to go down to Jakku and leave the Order. Kylo Ren, the CO of the FO contingent, orders a group to go down to Jakku to search for Solo. Finn personally volunteers and is praised by Ren for being a loyal trooper.

The Jakku team lands near a crashed Destroyer, the last vessel to have seen Solo or the Falcon. Finn plays along for a while but eventually creates a commotion and steals a speeder, running away from the order. He's injured in the process. The remaining troopers radio back to base that Finn has escaped. Ren catches wind and takes the betrayal personally.

Finn eventually stumbles into Rey's camp, were she works as a technician. She's initially skeptical and dismissive towards Finn, but upon seeing some of his shiny tech and his injury, offers to patch him up in exchange for parts. Rey has never left Jakku but wonders about the outside world. Finn tells her he's a smuggler who has seen all sorts of places, and Rey is intrigued by his stories. Finn asks if she's seen anyone by the name of Solo while she's living here. She says yes, but only from a Wookiee that's been here way too long; Chewbacca. Finn offers Rey a ride off of Jakku if she can lead him to Chewie.

Chewie is a shadow of his former self. He says that Han has been gone for quite sometime. The Falcon was badly damaged during the Destroyer fight and landed on Jakku. When Chewie woke up from the crash, Han was missing, and Chewie feared that he died in the endless deserts. Finn tells Chewie that he thinks Han is still alive, and that the First Order are looking for him and a man named Luke. The hope that Han and Luke might still be around inspires Chewie to repair the Falcon with Rey and look for Han.

As the Falcon is reaching completion, the First Order find Finn. The trio are forced to hop in the still unfinished Falcon and attempt an escape. Chewie's piloting allows them to escape the First Order inside the wreckage of the Destroyer. Rey is able to fix the hyperdrive, but they only have enough juice for a moderate jump into hyperspace. Finn hears the voices again, telling him to travel to Maz's Cantina, which is within range.

Meanwhile, Ren is furious. The Resistance fighters gave him nothing, Finn has escaped, and he still has no idea where Han or Luke could be. As Ren is throwing a massive tirade, Captain Phasma reports that a freighter similar to the one that outran the Order on Jakku has just made the jump to lightspeed. Ren orders Phasma to track them down, kill Finn, and recover any information they can on Solo and Skywalker. Phasma leaves in her personal TIE Squadron. Ren vows revenge against Finn for killing his men and betraying the “last bastion of order” in the galaxy.

Poe makes his way back to the Resistance base on Dantooine and meets up with Leia. He says his mission was partially successful. He wasn't able to recover information on Han or Luke, but did discover a massive project being worked on by the First Order. Leia asks if its another Death Star but Poe denies it. He says it's bigger and much, much different. It's not designed for destroying planets, but instead... As Poe is being debriefed, the Resistance Base comes under attack by the First Order. Everyone is in chaos, since scanners picked up no ships in orbit and no Order bases on the planet. Poe escorts Leia off of Dantooine, but the Resistance is overrun with a massive amount of troopers and support. Leia wonders how such an attack could've taken place.

Meanwhile, in lightspeed, Rey tries to ask Finn about different ships and smuggling jobs he's been on. Finn is casual at first, but he only knows about First Order tech, which makes Rey question Finn. She says she's always wanted to go into space to find her brother, who was taken by the First Order during a raid on Jakku many years ago. Finn tells her that most abductees are either made into Stormtroopers or turned into Slave Labor. Rey gets angry at Finn, asking how he'd know this if he was just a smuggler. Finn lies, saying you learn a lot by being a smuggler, something Chewie accidentally confirms. Still, Rey is distraught, now believing that her brother is either a mindless trooper or died in a slave camp. Finn spends the rest of the flight focusing on the voices in his head, becoming more intune with the Force.

They arrive at Maz's cantina and find that Han is Maz. He's been operating this cantina for years now, and doesn't recognize Chewie or the name Han Solo. Rey theorizes that the crash ruined his memory and he made his way off of Jakku. Upon questioning where he came from, Han tells the trio to buy something or get lost. He doesn't want trouble and being nose-y about someone's past is asking for trouble. Just as they're about to leave, Han sees the Falcon and recognizes it as the ship he woke up on. He asks how that's possible, and Finn retells the story of Han Solo. Using some of the Force, he's able to jarr Han's memory aboard the Falcon (basically reversing what Han says to Finn “it's true, all of it”). Han and Chewie have a real reunion (Yoda and the Force plays during this whole scene).

Everything's really peachy until Phasma's Squadron shows up. Han's feeling cavalier and decides to take them on, knowing the Empire is on his tail again. Rey reluctantly decides to man the lasers with Finn, and with Han and Chewie back together, they defeat most of Phasma's force. Phasma escapes, but not without putting another tracking beacon on the Falcon. Finn tells Han about the First Order's search for Luke and the Resistance. Han has an idea of where Luke would be; the old Rebel Base on Yavin IV, which was originally a Jedi temple. Han also recognizes the Force inside Finn and gives him Luke's old lightsaber, saying that Luke gave it to Han in case another promising Jedi appeared in the Galaxy.

Aboard Ren's ship, Ren has contacted The Supreme Leader (not called Snoke). He asks for guidance. The Resistance out runs him at every turn. He cannot keep order as the Leader intended. He's angry and doesn't know what to do. Leader tells Ren that a Dark Jedi has to order himself first before he can order others, and tells him to focus his rage and anger into making himself stronger. Leader also asks that Ren double his efforts on the Secret Project. Ren objects, saying that his men are already worn out and that the project is bigger than he expected. Leader threatens Ren with excommunication if he does not comply. Ren reluctantly agrees, and forces his men to work harder. Phasma returns and says she has found Solo, who is on his way to Yavin IV. Ren decides to pursue, knowing it will lead to Luke.

Poe and Leia run into the Falcon on their way to Yavin IV. Han and Leia have a funny moment where she talks about how he hasn't changed a single bit. She offers to fix the Hyperdrive so they can get to Yavin faster. The destruction of the base on Dantooine has forced the Resistance into traveling as one massive fleet, and the Falcon is fixed there. Leia asks Finn why he's looking for Luke, and replies that it's his destiny. Rey finds the whole fleet amazing and asks to join the Resistance to find her brother, and is accepted. Later, Finn apologizes to Rey and says he was once a Stormtrooper and not a Smuggler. Rey forgives him and says he's a true friend for showing her the universe so far.

The Resistance Fleet reaches Yavin IV, only to be met by the First Order. A large space battle breaks out as Finn, Rey, Han and Chewie descend to the surface. Poe stays in space and does cool X-Wing shit.They find the temple overrun by the First Order, lead by Ren. The group fights through the Stormtroopers, looking for Luke. Rey is captured during the battle by Phasma, something Finn blames Ren for. Finn and Ren see each other again, both wielding lightsabers. Ren calls Finn a tratior and challenges him to a duel for his honor. Finn agrees and is slightly outmatched by Ren during the fight. Ren taunts Finn by saying he lacks order and discipline, that he will never be a true Jedi. He's just a dude with a lightsaber and some powers. Finn fights back with a few tricks of his own, but Ren is more skilled and better trained. As Finn is almost defeated, Luke reappears and disables Ren with the force. Luke is old and frail, but knows the Force better than anyone. He tells Ren to leave before he uses the Force to destroy some of the First Order ships. Ren's loyalty to his men wins out, and the First Order retreats. Ren tells Finn that this isn't over, and that the Resistance won't stand against him or the Leader.

There's celebration for The Resistance's first big victory over First Order. Luke offers to train Finn in the ways of the Force, and Finn asks Poe to look for Rey while he's gone. As they are celebrating, however, reports across the galaxy come in of massive First Order invasions. Poe realizes what the First Order plan was; They've created a machine that can put First Order forces anywhere in the Galaxy. With the threat of invasion always imminent, First Order can now extend its reach far beyond the few systems it once held.
