Star Wars Episode 1 was essentially the same plot as a New Hope.
Why didn't the First Order just build an old Death Star and fix the exhaust port design flaw? It would be unstoppable, wouldn't require stars to recharge, and could blow up more than five planets. It would just take a short bit longer.
