Besides the shit stain that was TPM, I think the prequels were the best thing to happen to Star Wars. It gave us the Clone Wars and the Grand Army of the Republic, the 501st Legion, and gave so much added lore to the artillery, armored vehicles and regiments/ranks in the Star Wars universe.
I'm fucking glad Mr. Plinshit wasn't behind the making of the prequels either. He wanted to turn the clone wars into a 15 minute section where people fight Uruk-hai Orcs. He also wanted to scrap Coruscant all together.

Everything about the prequels was mostly shitty and boring. The characters have no personality. I can't remember anyone's name besides Qui Gon Jin and Count Dooku. I don't know a single person my own age who likes Star Wars and says they like the prequels, and this is coming from a generation of people who were old enough to see them in theaters as they all came out and get the toys for Christmas and such.
I remember seeing all these movies in theaters and now I'd honestly just rather never watch the prequels ever again. For me, the fun thing about the prequels was connecting it with to EU when it was canon. I was obsessed with the shit at the time and the EU did kinda try to explain and make sense of everything. George in a sense also tried to keep up with EU as well and tried to fit it in his lore, since LucasArts was running around throwing Star Wars shit out like diarrhea. Lucas even adding Darth Bane in the cartoon series and tried to follow some parts of the story with the Darth Plagueis book for Sheev.
Another thing was, you even had to read the books to understand some parts of the story in episode iii (pic related, best book), for example General Grevious because they completely snowballed him into return of the sith with nothing more than him just randomly appearing.
But Lucas threw all of that shit out of the window to accommodate JewJew Abrams. Abrams knew that if he was going to make a successful movie, he had to appeal to nostalgianerds and scrap the entire New Jedi Order, into a dead one.

I'm 28 and remember seeing the prequels as they came out and really trying to like them, just always felt like something was really off with them even when I was a kid. I remember TPM was one of my first DVDs actually and I was so excited to see the special features, thought all the making of stuff for Star Wars in general was cool at that age. These movies just didn't age well for me, when I go back and watch TPM and CW it's just so much of a cringe fest. Revenge is obviously a step up but the first two just kind of feel like they were made so the third film could be made.
And the effects really don't hold up in HD, though I'd imagine George planned on going back to the prequels and updating the effects at some point considering how much of it was done on green screen and digital.
It's all just a shame really, have a lot of mixed feelings towards Lucas. I don't think the guy is malicious, I just think assholes like Rick McCallum never said no. Rick is probably one of the single worst things to ever happen to Star Wars.

It's a shame how /tv/ likes to act like TCW is shit without even watching it. The first couple seasons are a little rocky with some great individual arcs but by season three the show goes full GOAT mode. It was intelligently written and pushed the TV-PG rating to as far as it could be pushed honestly, show becomes very violent and sexual at some points.

I'm 22. I saw the OT first because of my Dad but I was more immersed in the prequel world as a kid because of all the toys and games that came with it. The prequels were worse movies, but they gave more room for imagination in the star wars universe than the OT

It had so much wasted potential. Think of good ideas AotC had. Epic clone army being trained on kamino. Anakin killing sandniggers cause they raped his mom, and the beggining of his descent into the dark side. Dokuu could have been more importance to the story (he was cool but didn't really do shit). And the huge gathering of the jedi was fucking crazy to see cause we had never seen more than 2-3 jedi using the lightsabers at once. It was too many good ideas littered with shit ones that dragged it down. 2 is the worst of the prequels because it has the least amount of shit that went right...I mean you could argue 1 was worse than 2 but its kind of like they both sucked dick. 3 was pretty clearly the best prequel
