>nitpick the prequels to hell, to the point where every single line is somehow criticized and made fun of
>Gives TFA a complete pass on its massive glaring flaws because it's "soft reboot" so it being shit doesn't matter so long it has lightsabers

Where were you when RLM died and became a glorified Disney advertising channel?

theres nothing good about the prequels

TFA was a good watch

There is plenty of good in Prequels and there is plenty of bad in TFA. It's fucking childish to assume one is inherently shit while the other is inherently good like RLM does.

They had years to digest the prequels individually and what they meant as a whole. When attack of the clones came out, people didn't shit on it all that much compared to what they do now. I remember a lot of the reaction at the time just being how cool it was to see a bunch of Jedi fighting. It takes time unless it's something truly horrible like Prometheus.

They definitely softened up lately, I think it's just because they want to release videos really quickly. It's obvious that not all that much thought goes into them.

Plus, Plinkett is the angry autustic side of him.

The Plinkett reviews are a mix of Rich and Mike.

Rich was much less pleased with TFA than Mike was. Mike just wanted a Star Wars movie and that's what JJ gave him.

JJ saw that people just wanted the old Star Wars and just made that.

How come? All characters and events are explained pretty well, even if its' just with a throwaway line.
>>
>>63979159
Yeah, but he saw what it was more than Mike did.

TFA isn't terrible, it's just a rehash that hits all of the beats of the originals, mostly ANH and Jedi.

Like Jay said, it's just a dumb Space Movie, not some terribly deep thing that needs to be glorified.

TFA was a Star Wars movie. It was so much a Star Wars movie that it was almost too Star Wars, and that's what the fans wanted.

Rich was fine with it because it was competent. It's not like he praised it like Mike did.

Prequels have very few redeeming qualities. BUT at least the fan service and gender/racial politics didn't ruin them. It's was George's ineptitude to make a movie after not doing it for 22 years.
JJ was just sucking the franchise cock. He shoved his old R2 up his ass and directed a light lens flare take on Star Wars.

No they are not. Let's try to watch the opening text pretending it is a movie of its own:
>Luke Skywalker is missing!
Who? Why?
>But an old ally of the Resistanse has the piece of map to find him!
Who is that ally? What is the Resistanse? Why didnt that ally told everyone already?
>And so general Organa, former princess Leia, sends her best pilot
Who again? And, since the title ends with line about him, why is this pilot guy barely in the movie?

And so on.
>>
>>63979952
One asian pilot with only a name given in supplementary material is hardly indicative of any thing.

Also you're acting like a qt asian pilot is a bad thing.

Rey's character and adaptability is by far the weakest aspect of the film. Agreed

>>
>>63980129
Yes, they are really weak. They concentrate on the very wrong points, making viewer feel that Poe is going to be main character, for example. Or the whole "old ally" part - you can pretty much remove it and there will be one hole less in the plot (aka why didnt that ally tell them already). The title crawls, well as far as i understand it, are needed to quickly familiarize viewer with the basics of a universe (there is a rebellion, there is an evil empire, it have superweapon which can make it unbeatable and Leia has vital information to destroy it), not to explain plot, not in the trilogy's first movie at least. ANH didnt even had in-universe terms like Jedi. Even ESB crawls can pretty much explain the movie to the one who didnt watch Ep4 (which has some flaws too). TFA, on the other hand, dont even bother with explanation, and it is much needed (Luke Skywalker has vanished. In his absence, the sinister FIRST ORDER has risen from the ashes of the Empire and will not rest until Skywalker, the last Jedi, has been destroyed. - seriously, if you are not a SW fan, you will probabli be confused as hell with this).
>>
>>63980356
>felt fake and safe as fuck

what did you expect from an advertisement wars movie? an avant-garde experimental flick? they absolutely needed to get this one right, and to that end they used a pretty basic and straightforward plot. again, the plot in ANH is not that original or unique.

>A literal copypaste is worse than original stories

>TFA was a good watch

Amazingly Finn was more compelling and believable to me, as was Kylo. Rey was a Mary Sue. The entire New Order and Resistance or whatever made no fucking sense at all, J.J. is a fucking hack.

Sure, TFA is technically marvellous but it just feels like Star Wars Into darkness for some reason, can't say why and the darker bits on any ship felt like Nero's throne room from Star Trek 09. Fucking Rey being a Mary Sue fucked me over but not as bad as the bigger badder death star. Fuck disney and fuck J.J. for insisting on a bigger death star and how it had a weakness only a rag tag bunch could exploit. why not a virus wiping out worlds and han and leia dying trying to save and shuttle victims to safety, why a death star? why not a virus which is controlled at a centralized location and the new republic literally gets all of obliterated throwing there entire fleet at this rag tag bunch of hold outs from non aligned worlds who created the new empire and follows snoke who was the one who created this new virus with thousands of systems joining the new empire in order not to be wiped out by the plague...why a bigger and equally as flawed, death star?

why rehash a new hope? why make Rey an obvious cash grab character to sell star wars to girls? didn't they think making her so powerful would cheapen and lessen her accomplishments? i literally felt nothing for rey, and everything she encountered, from her time being captured to her telepathic session with kylo to her final fight with him was like something J.J. and Disney set up just so Rey could Mary Sue her way out of it. Now they're calling this fucking lousy shit character a feminist Icon? is this fucking real life, or is this some kind of fucking nightmare?

But everything in TFA was done for the same reason. It's why we got an even bigger and deadlier Death Star, an even older and wackier Yoda, a desert planet, and so on. It was all just to make money because it's what the dumbass fanboys want.

Oh obviously there was lots and lots of cynicism involved in the making of TFA, I mean it's a movie with a 4 billion trillion dollar budget.

But at the same time, those things that they happened to do, like practical effects, is what incidentally makes for a good movie. And the characters were about as unique as you can get in this type of movie.

As far as the death star thing goes, yeah that was lazy. But it didn't make the movie ''bad'' the same way the prequels were.

RLM are the living embodiment of the smug, detached Gen-X ethos.

I'd venture to guess none of them has felt a single sincere conviction about anything since childhood. They exist as polyps upon the colon of culture, satiating themselves on the perceived failures of others (i.e. "The Man") while adding nothing new to the discourse aside from ironic complaint.

They're a group of insecure, lost, rapidly aging burnouts who silently believe they could do a better job of making films than the professionals in the industry. Yet they lack the ambition and ability to actually enter the very industry they're obsessed with. They choose instead to fuck around and make student film piss-takes well into middle age.

They are awful, awful people. I've met thousands just like them, and the last thing we need is for these people to gain any attention for their navel gazing.

Please, /tv/, do not aspire to become anything like these people. Theirs is a lonely and pathetic road leading to depression and a life devoid of real purpose.

I hope they disappear and their disaffected followers stop subsidizing their lifestyle. Perhaps that would force them to do something productive with themselves.

Poe gets 15 mins
Finns character development is finished once he meets Rey
Rey is a complete and total mary sue used more as an infallible plot device to move the show along than anything resembling an actual character, and her use of the force is against everything currently in SW canon to that point.

>How did they steal it? Also if the plans are secret how did they know about them?
This is pushing it a bit right here. Maybe a dictionary is what you really need if words are so hard?

>Who is she? Why didnt she give those plans to someone already?

At the time a long distance message was pretty unbelievable. So, selective technology I guess.

But still beats the hell out of TFA which has the evil first order fighting a resistance backed by the republic, none of which really makes sense in context or out of it.. It generally confuses exactly how much power is held by each side.

The whole first scene is a disgusting rehash of the first scene of ANH though.

As opposed to the subtle and low-key storytelling of the prequels? The 40 minute lightsaber fight at the end of ROTS was awful.

And what's wrong with bringing Han Solo back? Besides, they kill him right in the first episode.

As far as the original characters are concerned, it does a surprisingly good job at developing them.

>>
>>63982003
Well, that was part of why they're bringing them back. In order to give closure. Ford always wanted Solo to die, and now Solo gets to die, nobly.

I didn't think it was a very elegant death, something about it felt off (maybe that Han should've died in TESB) but better late than never. And also, it's the only way to get the cinematic SW universe off the ground again. If they said ''We gonna make a SW trilogy but it won't have any real connection to the OT even though the original cast is still alive,'' nobody would care.

These are beloved characters, and people wanted to revisit them after all these years. It was perfect from Disney's pov. Even Lucas, who told these supposedly experimental and risky tales, just made a prequel trilogy about Vader and Obi-Wan, because that's what people care about.
