Rey did I ever tell you about the time your grandfather used that very lightsaber to slaughter dozens of younglings much like yourself in the jedi temple? Don't worry, he turned to the light side about 5 minutes before he died of asphyxiation. He was a good friend

What a stupid fucking word.

the thing that pissed me off about the prequels the most tbqh. darth had light in him, they made sith anakin complete edgy evil. killing a bunch of kids? really?

Darth Vader was not Anakin Skywalker
>>63965845
Lucas is a hack and spent the first two movies farting around with Anakin's childhood naivety & teenage angst. About halfway through episode 3 he realized "oh shit I have to set up Darth Vader as the penultimate badass of this galaxy" and overcompensated.

yes he was mate. It's not like he had his mind erased and a new personality indoctrinated into him. Anikin DECIDED to become evil. Fuck your point of view, old man.

They acknowledged this in the movie. You could hear the younglings crying as Rey was drawn to the lightsaber.

>Rey did I ever tell you about the time I blew up a battle station with over 300'000 people like your friend Finn on board? they were good friends.

I rewatched them and realized this. Happened way too fast. Darth's story deserves a slow simmer of evil.
>Don't worry, he turned to the light side about 5 minutes before he died of asphyxiation
this is actually an allegory to the evangelical Christian belief of being "born again". By accepting Jesus Christ as your personal savior (turning to the light side) you will be cleansed of all sins and G-d will have a place prepared for you in the afterlife (just as we see Anakin's ghost at the end of ROTJ, affirming his own attainment eternal life). The fact that he turned to the light side just minutes before his own death just further strengthens the allegory as evangelicals believe you are saved ONLY via the grace of G-d through faith alone and NOT through any of your earthly deeds.
Star Wars is entirely a (protestant) Christian saga about redemption.

Yeah, killing children is way too edgy for even the ultimate evil in the galaxy to go around doing. I'm pretty sure Lucas put this in the movie less as a character establishing moment for Darth Vader, and more as a lazy plot device since he had to kill all the Jedi and had already established that there were younglings in the temple in Attack of the Clones.
Unfortunately, George doesn't seem to have realized exactly the kind of impact this sort of lazy writing has on his character and the audience's perception of said character. Classic Lucas.

Agreed. Everything which supposedly defined Anakin as a character - his close friendship with Obi-wan, his skills as a Jedi and a pilot, and his temptation toward the dark side - are never properly conveyed in the prequels. Instead he's just an edgy emo kid who gets tricked into being evil out of desperation and stupidity. We're supposed to believe that it's to save Padme's life but Palpatine admits that he has no idea how to do that, and yet Anakin still doesn't bother to question anything he tells him. It's inauthentic.
