I disagree. I think they did a great job. Its hard to translate all of the internal monologues Mark has in the book and surprisingly the science is pretty sense. No way they could put all of that in the movie adaption. The only thing I was pissed about is that they didn't have Mark struggle to get to the Ares 4 site like in the book. They skipped to much of his journey to the landing site.

If you don't skip stuff like that you end up with a Lord of the Rings scale disaster where 1 movie's worth of worthwhile content is stretched out to 3.
