I'm reserving all judgment of Snoke's design. You really can't see the details because he's cloaked in shadow. I will say it was frustrating to watch him. I kept squinting, trying to figure out what the texture of his skin was.
I thought it was a neat idea to have him projected as a massive hologram. At first I thought he was the size of the Lincoln Memorial. There was imagination there, at least.
And who knows? When we see him in the flesh, we might find that he works a lot better. He did what he needed to do, though... He made me desperate to see more. It showed very non-JJ-esque restraint to keep him hidden in shadow.

Also, anything related to the Sith is prequel shit and pretty much apocryphal for these movies. If we're to take the hints given, Snoke and Kylo Ren aren't Sith, just dark Jedi. Rey shows us that unaffiliated, force-sensitive people can still use the force effectively, and we don't really have a reason to think the Snoke couldn't do this too.

The one thing I did expect to be great was the visuals, which to be fair was mostly good. But I did detect a sense of cheapness in some of it, the sets, the CGI characters etc. I guess they just want to increase their profit margins even more because they know it will be a massive success regardless.
