I think the biggest flaw in this movie is the familiarity of it. The plot uses a few principal elements over again in relation to prior films (you know which elements I mean). This gives the movie the sense of "I've seen this before". So it almost felt like a partial remake, when it should have been original, or shockingly original. Yes, I know the directors and other creative types were trying to pay homage, the way some, *ahem*, Star Trek movies do, but then the risk is it produces something that is meta, which entirely destroys the sense of risk and immersion. In the first Star Wars movie, by chronological appearance, there was no idea as to what would happen next. In this new movie, I had the feel of it being a bit of a chore getting through the rehash, only to find that the heart of the movie was just more rehash. A good rehash. But a bit tedious.

The screenplay is the worst thing about the movie. A good screenplay can make an arbitrary plot engaging. This was not a good screenplay. It never spared time for buildup, it blurred into itself, and it ran on referential humor. It had all the cinematic grace of an action flick.
