In order to trigger the Death Star's destruction, an X-Wing had to fly into a large room.
This large room, is literally on the surface, or no more bellow it than the trench.
Once there, normal X-Wing shots can destroy the whole thing.
Satchel charges were enough to blow up its wall.
Why the fuck didn't a single fucking capital ship show up?
Once the shields were down, a couple dozen shots at that room from above with the turbo lasers could have accomplished the same thing.
There wasn't even a need to go deep inside it this time. THEY LITERALLY JUST HAD TO DAMAGE A SURFACE STRUCTURE TO DESTROY IT.

I think, when you consider the cyclical nature of Star Wars, they did a lot of really interesting things with the narrative. People complain about Kylo being Mary Sue but it was appropriate, because it's to show how the Dark Side makes you emotionally unstable. I didn't mind Rey being competent, some of the stuff made sense, but I think they may have gone too far in a few places.
When I saw her fighting with the stick early on I thought yeah she has melee experience I can see her using a lightsaber better than Luke at first.
She was used to working with tech and such so I can see her being an asset on the falcon, but it felt like she was just a little too good there.

Except they couldn't even get that right because the two shots are contradictory. When Han fires it it acts like a grenade launcher and sends a stormtrooper flying in a cloud of dust. While, some people are indeed well meaning most of them aren't able to either recognize or cope with the fact that the ideas they push for are unsuccessful and even destructive (welfare, minimum wage, affirmative action etc.). I find Finn's defection to be nonsensical. He's trained from birth, yet somehow gained the idea that he was the bad guys? Like they wouldn't pump their child soldiers full of propaganda to make the group called "rebels" look like fucking anarchist faggots. Then I'm wondering if the moment he decided "not to kill for them" was that opening scene, meaning that was his very first actual deployment, and he still sides against his brothers despite one getting instantly blown away right beside him before they even do anything evil.
Also in the opening scene when the Stormtroopers first landed and flooded out of the ships, it looked like there was already a dead trooper on the ground before the first guys even got out.

Finn seems to have had zero effects from the decade of mental conditioning and brainwashing, which is fucking stupid, but the scene at least makes sense. The Storm Troopers drop out of the sky, begin burning and killing everything in a remote village, then round up and execute every last person there, while the Troopers themselves are treated like meat to be thrown into the grinder until atrocities come out the other end.

The pacing of the movie was atrocious. Everything felt rushed and extremely awkward.
The final scene confused me. Weren't other people looking for Luke? They finally get that map and whatnot, but ONLY special snowflake Rey goes with Chewy and R2D2 for some reason, though they don't even bother leaving the ship.

For me it was all the coincidences. I can obviously understand Rey finding BB-8, and then happening to run into Finn.. you'd think that would be enough for most films, but no, the Millennium Falcon just happens to be there? then Han and Chewie just suddenly find them? Rey just happening to find Luke's old lightsaber, on the very first planet they visit? Then add in the fact Leia suddenly appears, the whole starkiller base thing with Phasma and many, many more.
It's just all very contrived and down right insulting to your own intelligence. It's not a movie, it's a roller coaster ride. It's honestly more like star tours than star wars.

The most extensive force training we see is with Yoda and not once does Yoda whip out his lightsaber to spar with Luke.
At one point Yoda tells him that he won't need his weapons when entering the cave.
Makes perfect sense for Luke to be even more careful with lightsabers and his new students knowing how dangerous the dark side is.
