There's literally real planets out there made entirely of gas, diamond, raining glass, ocean planet (gives ep. 2 credit for that). Even J.J.'s Star Trek films had fancier looking alien planets. Jakku was ok. I kinda liked how the foundations of society were built on the battlefield itself. Gave it a different twist to Tatooine, but there wasn't really any obvious reason why they just set the beginning on Tatooine unless it ties to Rey's past.
