Who had arranged for his term to be extended beyond its legal limits for "the duration of the crisis" (however long that may be), as well as a host of other "emergency powers" measures that consistently placed ever more power within the office of the Supreme Chancellor. That's a soft coup in and of itself. The Jedi had legitimate reason to be concerned about Palpatine's willingness to leave office even before Anakin confirmed he was the Sith Lord that had been rumored to be influencing the Senate.

Oh, how convenient. So the Jedi were just "afraid" to come forward after being trusted by the Senate for thousands of years. What seems more likely: some vast conspiracy engineered by Palpatine involving the entirety of the army, the cooperation of all the Senators, the ignorance of the press and the people, and complete control of all separatists, or the Jedi not approving of Palpatine's ideas and creating an excuse to have him executed.
There's a reason why due process exists: Palpatine worked in accordance with intergalactic law, while the Jedi thought themselves as above such petty trifles. The Jedi were clearly in the wrong here, and provided absolutely no evidence of any allegations to anyone outside of their Order.
