Leia needed to be there for Kylo Ren's plot, like Han. Chewbacca always follows Han so he needs to stay. Lando was retired, at least from this movie, and it was fine since there was nothing for him to do. C3PO and R2D2 have nothing to do in this movie and might as well have been with Luke on the last shot, or not show up at all in TFA. BB8 was the superior version of R2 and pretty much was the R2 of the movie.
