Brooklyn, Ex Machina, Diary of a Teenaged Girl, The Revenant, and even The Martian were all better films.

Sicario just has gritty masculine action and pseudo-intellectual posturing.
>>

>>63908547
it has too few actual scenes and sequences to justify the overall length of the film. it needed to be either shorter or more developed and densely plotted.

plus it's another "gee whiz if only the developed world would leave developing nation alone everything would be great XD" movie. it's basically that Matt Damon film Green Zone but for the drug war.

One complaint

If he was a prosecutor in Colombia then it makes no sense for the Mexican Cartel to have killed him
>>
>>63908862
Women have no business being in situations like this.
>>
>>63908974
He was a prosecutor in Mexico whose family was killed by the Mexican cartel so he started working for their rivals, the Medellin Cartel of Columbia who loaned him out to the CIA.
>>
>>63909013
Yet didn't use a Mexican accent
>>
>>63908974
1. He wasn't just a prosecutor
2. Prosecutors are often murdered by the cartel if they stand in the way. It seems to work.
>>
>>63908862

She was a cop. Her whole perspective on fighting these people was from a policeman's standpoint. Unfortunately the realities of the world require even the "good guys" employ trained killers to use against problems that cannot be solved by policework alone.

It's confusing that they involve her given her mindset, until they reveal that they're literally just using her and have no interest in her qualities as a person. She's there because it's required. It's why Alejandro tells her to go some place where the rule of law matters. That's what she's good at. The border was a place for killers, be they military, CIA, or hired guns with an axe to grind.

>>
>>63909111

>>
>>63908958
definitely the right move for the scene, but the subtext of the casting was that skin-color is what determines a person's responsibility for being part of a drugs family.

plus the leader didn't actually behave like a human being. he would have known he was probably dead but was like "ur dawhter god threwn in acib :DDDD" so that killing his family was recontextualized into a punishment for hurting the guy's feelings.
>>
>>63906781
If the main chick and le black man sidekick weren't in it at all, it would have been a way better movie. I understand that she was and outsider and we were supposed to be looking at the situation from her outsider perspective, etc. But she was a terrible character that I kept hoping would get shot in the face so the plot could progress without her whining or being stupid at every little thing.

>>63909197
> Sicarios flaw was what was the point of the scenes with the spic cop?

To show the ubiquitous nature of the drug war. Think about the ending scene, where the kids go back to playing football despite hearing the gun shots.

Also, it shows the moral greyness of the people involved in the drug war. Had those scenes not been in the film, we wouldn't have felt sympathy for the cop when Alejandro shot him. He would've just been another "bad cartel guy", which is the opposite of what the film was trying to convey.

The cop was probably the most important character. He is a simple man living in a shithole, who gets dragged into this mess. You can draw a parallel between him and del toro's character. One said No and one said Yes to the cartels. That scene with his son was also fantastic where he tells him not to touch the rifle. And now that he's gone the kid will probably not end well. This is the reason we see his family not get killed, I think. Overall a fantastic movie, Armond also loved it.

>>
>>63917850
even as a cop, she should have understood when a shooting was justified. I mean, you spot to cars full of guys with guns, you even engage ONLY if they raise the guns, and then you smoke them. Why the fuck did she get upset? The highway scene shooting was completely justified. You're a cop, you're telling a bunch of people to lower their guns, and they don't. What do you thing it's gonna happen?

That's the other thing, she was supposed to be a senior swat member from the DEA. What the fuck? She was nervous and hesitant the entire fucking movie, SWAT is supposed to be the elite of the police, most are ex military. As a character she wasn't believable at all.
>>
>>63917668
literally Emily Blunt gets bullied all the time: the movie
>>
>>63917975
I think that scene her being hesitant is justifiable. She had no idea what was going on, who the prisoner they were transporting was or why he was important. And they didn't even give her a nice tacticool weapon she just had her sidearm when those cartel guys obviously had automatic guns

I understand being hesitant, and in shock after killing a guy, but she then went on to say "we don't do this kind of things, we are the good guys" when they actually took their time, asked the nice gentlemen nicely to put the guns down. It would have been different if they just went and killed the people in the cars without even a warning, but that wasn't the case.
