it's honestly way, way worse than you probably remember it being even if you remember it being terrible. it is just astonishingly terrible. every scene is just painstakingly boring, all of the "characters" barely even exist and just mumble their lines without a hint of enthusiasm, then you have Anakin being an annoying little douchebag. And the CGI has really aged so terribly to the point that it looks like a bad video game. Stay far, far away.

I just rewatched it and thought it was better than the other 2, just that it has very little to do with the rest of the series.
YMMV, but I just rewatched all of them and was shocked at how much I like this one and hated III.

Agreed. I noticed when I recently rewatched it. There is a really great star wars movie hidden behind the kiddie bullshit. Take out all things Jar Jar and dumbass baby Annie and it's a really fun, decently paced, star wars film.
Episode 1 remains my favorite prequel. The others were too clean. Too much cgi. No villain as memorable as Maul.

OP here. I have the same question for Attack of the Clones. I have seen Episode 3, The Original Trilogy, and Force Awakens twice each, but Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones I haven't seen since they were shown in 1999 and 2002. I can't remember anything about the movies. Nothing. Were they really that shitty? I remember the Yoda/Dooku fight and Darth Maul's face. That's all I remember about those two movies.

The only truly objectively bad movie entry in the Prequel Trilogy is Episode II. Rampant overuse of CGI, wooden acting and sterile deadened line reading from almost every actor, the cringe worthy romantic scenes that had extended focus in AoTC and badly hatched use of the Clones at the very end along with Lee's overly hammy portrayal of Dooku.
If the segment on Tatooine was just shortened to Anakin winning the Podrace and then you had Jinn and Obi-Wan meeting him and using his fame to buy Anakin's freedom as well as just reducing Jar-Jar's role, it'd be pretty fucking great overall.

Episode 2 is the only Star Wars film I straight up hate. It's boring, poorly written, poorly shot, 99% cgi garbage. Throws in a boring, shitty villain. Had, bar none, the worst written and acted love story I've ever seen. And tried its hardest to ruin Yoda's character by making him just another brutish, lightsaber waving retard.
There is nothing good about that movie.
