What would have been a LOGICAL, canonical prequel plot?
Anakin falls to the dark side only in order to save the life of someone he loves.
During this entire event he is clearly emotional torn and could even be shown crying.
At the end he could express that he did everything for the person he loves and shown that he's not truly evil.
Only then to believe that the love of his life betrays him.
But after all of this, the first question he could ask after becoming Vader wouldn't be concerning his own well being, but that of the person he still loves.
Oh wait.
That's exactly what happened.
The general story of the prequels made sense. It was just horribly executed with shit dialogue, performances and effects.
Anakin's portrayal and the portrayal of his fall to the dark side should have been handled a lot better.

and have anakin joining sheev make a shred of sense, like say sheev constructs some situation where it would be believable for obi-wan to assassinate padame, and then he has her killed and frames obi-wan, so anakin joins his side to fight against him and the jedi, who have already been shown to be doing morally grey things by themselves, just anything other than some vauge you might have the power to save her from dying in childbirth and then she dies anyway from losing the will to live
The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith
Anakin falling to the darkside by making a decision that's short term pragmatical and understandable but ends up having dire long term effects.
You can surround that with whatever galactic politics you want but having him be a functional retard who chokes padme/is an insufferable child/massacres children etc just ruins everything.

All they really had constraining them was:

Attack of the Clones is a dogshit movie, but that's kind of actually vaguely what I imagined a prequel movie would be like. The adventures of Obi Wan and Anakin investigating people wielding power behind the scenes and bringing about the Empire.
I would've taken about 25% of the plot of the Phantom Menace and combined that with Attack of the Clones and made that the first movie (so no bullshit with child Anakin).
Second movie is just actually the Clone Wars and what that was, who was involved, how the dark/good side of the force played into that. Then the third one would have been about how Anakin turned and Order 66 and shit.
Anakin doesn't turn because of Padme, he slowly turns because he's trying to become powerful enough to win the war, and it just slowly drives him mad. Padme runs away with their kids before he knows and lives a few years so Leia can remember her.

Man it would've been so much better if Padme was more active in the Senate, distrusted the Jedi and was the one pushing to curtail the legality of their actions.
Sheev is one of her major advocates but doesn't take the center stage, meanwhile he manipulates a highly respected Jedi (Mace Windu maybe) on the council to be more hardline with their war tactics and to begin distrusting the Republic. Mace and Padme HATE each other.
Anakin finds his loyalty divided. Mace discovers Sheev's plot but Anakin sees him as a threat to both his bud Sheev and Padme. Sheev somehow actually orchestrates mace killing Padme somehow. Anakin loses his shit and kills Mace after a crazy ass duel. Battle lines are drawn, Sheev founds the Empire in Padme's name and invokes order 66. End movie duels between Yoda and Sideous and Obi-Wan vs. Vade happen as filmed.

Also the Clone Wars should begin at the end of the first movie, not the second.

They had more constraining them though. There was a strong implication in the original movie that Owen didn't trust Obi-Wan.

There should have been much more clear implications that Owen was more involved in Anakin's life, that he was upset at what happened, and that he may have even blamed Obi-Wan himself, either for taking him away from a respectable, quiet life, or for playing into Anakin's ego and leading him down a path of self-destruction.
What we got out of the prequels was him being shoehorned in as a stepbrother, and Obi-Wan just dropped Luke off with him and Beru almost as an afterthought.
There was nothing to ever suggest that Obi-Wan could or should be a subject of ire for him, and that Owen should have been anxious to let Luke and Obi-Wan meet.
Shit, we barely even see Obi-Wan train Anakin, or even become his friend, he just barks orders and Anakin disobeys while bitching and moaning. We should have seen them properly act like brothers. The training should have been like a guy showing off some sweet moves to his friend, then teaching his friend how to do it.
I did like the whole investigation thing, but the bit with Anakin and Obi-Wan at the beginning chasing after the would-be assassin just wasn't enough. And it was also a shit mystery where Sidious just sort of Obi-Wan along, while Anakin kept out of the picture and did nothing but awkwardly woo Senator Moley.
Should have had more buddy cop trilogy behind it. Kept the trio more involved with one another's lives. Actually been friends. Actually had some kind of fucking CHEMISTRY on-screen!
