Honestly it's the best Star Wars movie to date. It's the 'Terminator 2' of A New Hope - A bigger, better more kinetic version of the original film in every possible way. But let's get into the details
The good
>Every significant character and the actors that play them
>Han Solo has a significant amount of screen time, way more than I expected
>That scene aboard Hand and Chewie's transport vessel was cool slice of life/wild west in space-esque scene that had the right amount of world-building and action, wish there was more like it.
>The first-act stuff with Rey on Jakku was really cool too, it also had a lot of world building/atmosphere and breathing room to get used to the characters and setting, also wish there was more of this.
>Really really good cinematography and visuals
>Han's death was handled really well
>Kylo Ren was actually a well thought out villain with a twist
>We get to see Coruscant again
>Really good emotional scenes and sequences
>references old movies without overdoing it
The not-so-good
>Soundtrack offered nothing new
>Spaceship battles were uninteresting, or at least nowhere near as interesting or memorable as the Deathstar trench run in ANH
>Lightsaber fight in the woods and final Lightsaber fight was uninteresting and power levels made no sense
>Po and Finn first meet and instantly become best friends - a little too 'Disney' if you ask me
>The millenium falcon just happens to be where Rey just happens to work near where Po just happens to know a guy who has a map to Luke Skywalker
>not enough 'cool' alien designs (Gungans, whatever Sebulba was), but rather leans towards more 'grotesque'. Maz was a pretty cool character though

Well I saw it today alone and it was JUST what I expected, this rehash was nothing but a glib facsimile.
If Star Wars was all I had access to as a child in terms of sci-fi I probably would become one of those crazy fanboys, but thankfully I had access to anime from very early on in my youth years that my mental balance is very stable.
Seriously, if you have watched Akira, you'd realize just how sophisticated anime is and it blows away anything Star Wars would have to offer.
A lot of people mention Ghost In The Shell, which has just enough of sexuality in the mix to draw in the western audience I suppose but I must say that Ghost In The Shell is not even in my top 10 anime, not even close, that's just how deep the world of anime is.
Some anime is so disturbingly mature like Fractale that I wish it would challenge the system and submit it as a Drama category in the Oscars just to bitchslap the snotty Academy.
It's not just the level of maturity and sophistication anime has, it's also quite original, entertaining, and visually fantastic. I would regard anime as the highest form of cinema art-form.
But hey, me preaching about anime won't do you any good, you gotta go out and see it for yourself just how much you are missing.
The recent one I would recommend to check out is Sword Art Online which is light and easy to get into anime for the first time yet appreciate it as much, but if you want the heavy stuff right off the line check out Guilty Crown in which the plot is so complex and twisted that you'll need extra oxygen pumped into your brain in order to comprehend everything, and if you want amazing visuals and a gripping drama that also has awesome mecha battles Aldnoah.Zero is the shit.

I always considered ANH to be a significantly better film overall than Empire. Popular opinion holds TESB in high regard because of the Yoda training scenes and the Vader is Luke's father reveal. But people seem to forget that the rest of the movie is kind of cheap and unmemorable and doesn't tell a proper self-contained story. And because TFA is a bigger better version of ANH it is literally and honestly the best Star Wars movie to date in my opinion.

The rest of your "good" are more subjective, but they're also fucking wrong. This new movie was all of the same Abrams Trek run run bang bang zoom KABOOM non-stop action trying to cover for the fact that the plot is totally unoriginal and held together by chewing gum and prayer. Jakku offers next to no world building. The only reason there's any breathing room is because nothing happens and we're sitting on our asses learning nothing.
The cinematography is also ass. It's Abrams Trek's same action movie nonsense. We never get a chance to absorb any sort of vista or think about any given shot because we're constantly cutting between shots. Abrams knows if he stops jangling his keys in front of our face, we'll get bored and notice the story is bullshit, so he refuses to stop jangling for even a second.
