No matter whether you liked TFA or not. You cant get over the fact that a baby, indoctrinated by a fascist cult, trained to be a killer, and living their entire life exposed solely to their propaganda and culture would have an extremely difficult time adjusting to the outside world. It is all he knows, the decision to leave would be incredibly difficult. He would at best be emotionally scarred at worst would be a machine like humanoid. Instead he crashes and hes just some normal dude.
I'm assuming they have off time to be normal dudes together as storm troopers.

Actually no he says he was taken at birth. And people who escape cults generally do not instantly become assimilated to normal culture nor do they have much knowledge of it.
If he was really in a cult since birth theres no possible way he would instantly be joking around and even knowing what was funny. He had no disciplinary events before this. He was a janitor of all things so one would think that he probably was worse of a storm trooper than most but all of a sudden he is killing Storm Troopers left and right.
Also you really think the first order wouldnt have either eunoched him or had been breeding him or something. The storm troopers dont even have names or identities. They are numbers. He would have insane amount of issues.

Finn in the movie was a really pathetic submissive manlet. He's used to being abused and pushed around his whole life. He won't have that hard of a time existing in a democratic society beyond being too easy to bully around

Those are not the same Storm Troopers at all. These storm troopers aren't bantering with each other. Also without any exposure to the outside world how would he decide to leave for it.
If you were in a cult you would have more issues than being attracted to women. There are women storm troopers. He would probably have issues with food...or do you think theyre getting 3 course meals and snacks in the First Order militia. Literally its all he has ever known and he was on his first mission. He knows nothing of the outside world and culture.
I feel like he has backstory being saved for VIII. Something about him just deciding on a whim to leave seems kinda strange to me. Especially because they specifically point out that he hadn't shown any sign of rebellion before that.

Finn is a foil to Kylo. Finn chose freedom after a life of grooming and manipulation. Kylo chose to lose his freedom by becoming a pawn of Snoke.

It's painfully obvious that Finn's only true companion in the First Order was killed in the opening scene, he gave no fucks about the other storm troopers dying. I think it will be made clear that he had one friend who was somewhat of a mentor and probably a nice dude just doing his job or something and then he died and Finn freaked out. Of course this is all conjecture, that could end up not being the case at all and then the whole situation would just be stupid.

TR-8R should have survived to be Finn's foil throughout the trilogy. Whereas Finn managed to somehow break the conditioning, TR-8R would be someone so completely invested in the Order that it has effectively become his family. His fellow troopers are his brothers, bound by honor if not by blood. For Finn to betray them so utterly is like being stabbed in the back by a close relative. It's incomprehensible, unforgivable. TR-8R's obsessive quest to kill Finn in repayment of the lives lost as a result of his treachery would represent Finn's past, a past that he can never quite outrun or leave behind.
