This won't work in live action, best case scenario is Avatar type show

I read all 15 books and can confirm that this series is on average, quite shitty. It requires a minimum of 9 seasons as well.

Even if you rush the TV show you still need one season for each of the first 5 books.

6 to 11 can all be condensed into one or two seasons.

12 to 14 need a season each as well.

One season per book, combine 4+5, 6+7, 8+9+10, 12+13+14, don't include New Spring. 8 season show, doable iff popular.

The books actually translate really well to 10 episode seasons. For instance, EotW:
1: The pilot includes the prologue as a pre-credits bit and is the first few chapters of EotW, culminating in the Trolloc attack on Emond's Field.
2: The road from Emond's Field to Baerlon, takes some time for more backstory introducing the setting as ep. 1 is more plot and character introduction Channeling, Trollocs and Fades, Aes Sedai, etc.
3: Baerlon, Min, Nyneave.
4: Shadar Logoth, ends with the group getting split up
5: Thom "dies" and Rand and Mat evade Darkfriends on the road, Ba'alzamon appeara in dreams
6: Perrin and Egwene encounter Gleemen, wolves, Children
7: Rand and Mat in Caemlyn, Logain, Elayne, Gawyn, Galad, Morgase
8: the group reunites and is joined by Loial, they travel through the Ways to Shienar
9: from Fal Dara into the Blight, ends outside the Eye
10: Eye of the World, Green Man, final battle vs Aginor and Balthamel
>>

It'd be impossible to do any of the grand scale novels faithfully (I don't know how you could even visually represent the Culture series' space combat) but Use of Weapons is adaptable. As is Inversions, actually. I'm not sure about any of the others. Maybe Matter?

One thing I like about the Culture series as a whole is violence is rarely used without consequences.

Think of the budget, dedication required of hundreds, time-frame, and how Jordan spent literally books world-building.

I would love a series, but almost think it would be better as a fucking anime; I hate anime, but if it's faithfully adapted with pretty visuals...

I have no doubt someone will try. Hopefully they have a massive budget.

>braid tugging intensifies
>>
>>63849275
A lot of the worldbuilding is descriptive. The descriptions of clothing and environments might occupy thousands of pages but that doesn't translate to extra screen time, just good costumes and sets.

Internal monologues could be elided, minor theatres expanded into full volumes for bookselling purposes could be minimized, and characters could be cut. It's not impossible to make it work.
>>
>>63849727
Hence a need for said large budget. Retooling some of the filler books, etc...

I would love it, but like Blood Meridian, a lot could be lost in adaptation.
>>
>>63849727

Hopefully never.

There's hundreds of recurring characteds that would need a specific casting to fit with the books.

A lot of the writing will sound incredibly cheesy without really skilled actors.

The costumes would cost a fortune.

The CGI and set costs would be astronomical.

There's 10 000 pages of the fucking thing. Just the audio books take 20 days of listening non-stop to finish.

How the fuck could you do the series justice like that?

I don't blame RJ, I just don't shit on Sanderson too hard even when he deserves it, because he produced an ending. I had been reading the series since 1996, and when RJ announced that he had cancer of the AIDS, I thought it was all over.
>>
>>63851388
Opens with Black Ajah turned forcibly to the Light. Great scene.

Perrin's wife stolen. This is the shittiest plot thread in the entire series, worse than even Olver's story, but the setup here is interesting, even thrilling.

Darkfriend bro manipulates Elayne. Rare example of the dark side showing actual cunning.

Rand awkwardly formalizes his polygamous arrangement. Hilarious scene.

Forsaken decide to kill Rand before he can cleanse the source. You could cut the suspense with a knife following that brief interlude.

Mat: gets the ball rolling on his Dragons idea, is raped by Tylin (who is then eviscerated by a gholam), rescues Joline from Seanchan enslavement, learns Tuon's identity and marries her. Classic Mat!

Powerless Rand stealth murders rogue Asha'man in Far Madding aided by Cadsuane's array of Q-like gadgets, and Lan. One of my favourite bits in the series.

The gang cleanses the source while under siege from every Forsaken. Epic.

Winter's Heart was fucking awesome. Not one dull moment to be found. Possibly the best entry in the entire series.

>>
This shit would be so easy to adapt. You only need an hour for most of the books. The first half hour is the boring exposition which is 90% of each book. The last half hour is the fun climax that is the final chapter or two of each book.

>>63855137
There has always been a tension between writers who aspire to high art, enduring work, and those who pursue popular success, defining themselves as entertainers. The literati disdain the commercial while envying their bank accounts, and the bestsellers often regard the artistic as elitist and unreadable and the twain don't do a lot of beer-drinking together.

A few years ago Stephen King spoke at the National Book Awards where he was being acknowledged for his life's work, and he lambasted a glittering crowd for not adequately honoring popular fiction. He said, "I have no patience with or use for those who make a point of pride in saying they've never read anything by John Grisham, Tom Clancy, Mary Higgins Clark..."

That same day, Shirley Hazzard, who had just won the National Book Award, disagreed, saying she had too little time left to live and read, that she would focus on Shakespeare and Conrad. She said, "I want to say in response to Stephen King, I don't think giving us a reading list of those who are most read at this moment is much of a satisfaction."

Both writers are people I respect and I will cravenly say here that I think both are right. Because, and this is the point, these are decisions that we all make for ourselves. We all assess what we value, how we want to spend our leisure time, or even if we want to call reading 'leisure time' - as opposed to necessary oxygen - and there is no formula, no rule.
>>
Wheel of Time is very overrated. Having said that, I have read all of it and would welcome a TV series. As has been pointed out a few times already, 9 or 10 seasons would be a requirement and I don't think you could really do that nowadays.
