I also think that it is quite conceivable that audiences are more inclined to favour male actors, and thus that those actors are more popular generally, and thus that there is a clear economic basis for such discriminationwhich is not to say that society's holding that attitude can't be objected to, or that steps to adjust that attitude should not be taken; au contraire.
On the other hand, if the issue can be used as a way of generating more discussion of the subject as a whole, then all to the good.
