Kek, no.

The Marvel Memetic Universe and Frozen are huge cashcows for Disney, pretty sure they're the only ones who could invest 4 billion in a new franchise. For other companies it would be too risky. Remember, the prequels left a really bad taste in people's mouths, it could've always been a flop.

Just because more people paid to see it does not mean it was a great movie. The amount of Star Wars fans vs people who were first time Avatar viewers guaranteed a high turnaround. Many of those fans will be reassessing their initial excitement immediately upon leaving the cinema.

Watch that IMDB rating tumble as time progresses.

for example only a year ago most movies would have an actual midnight showing only on thursdays, meaning maybe 1 or 2 showings at 12:01am friday and then that was it until early friday morning

He's right though, people have said pretty much every one of Cameron's films will fail, and none of them ever do.

Didn't this movie get released internationally on Tuesday or Wednesday?

Everyone does that since Aurora

They've already cleared estimates of $240 million back in licensing fees, and it all drops to the DIS bottom line. So the marketing is in the black already.

" "Star Wars" merchandise is expected to pull in even more than the movie - $3 billion globally - which means $300 million in licensing revenue for Disney. That's highly profitable revenue - where Disney keeps 80 cents of every dollar in revenue - to $240 million in profit flows to Disney's bottom line, Goldman says."

Disney's review embargo, and the original cast returning, will ensure a big opening weekend but we'll see how it does in the long run!!!FACT!!!

But avatar has none of that, watch again and the delusion from the effects will wear off, the characters are pretty forgettable except for military guy and there's barely any action
>>
>>63836813
I've seen avatar 3 times and literally can't remember a thing about it.

TFA was 10x more memorable despite me only seeing it once.

Face it, Avatar was cliché ridden forgettable shlock. It's only remembered for its profits.

yeah, lucas signed an in perpetuity distribution deal with fox for the first film

They are all over /tv/. For some reason they they try to lump in Cameron. Cameron is a great director but Avatar sucked. They pretend that if you hated Avatar, you hate all his movies like Terminator and Alien.

Disney is actually going to make AT LEAST one Star Wars until the heat death of the universe. They have been foaming at the mouth how this is the perfect "neverending franchise".

That they will pay a yearly bonus on top of the $4Bn deal to The Flanneled One if he lives past 80 tells that they are planning to milk the franchise for at least 70+ years (duration of copyright after original author's death - implying it won't be retroactively extended whenever Steamboat Willie is in danger of slipping to the public domain).

I have watched Avatar untold times. I love it. I also love Star Wars. But TFA was average at best. I am looking forward to Avatar 2 more. I am being serious here. I know Avatar was basically a bunch of ideas from other sources and is generic. But the effects are still cool even now and it actually had some spirit to it. TFA felt a little cold despite the use of 'muh nostalgia'.

Avatar at least tried to be it's own thing and tried to break new ground with the use of digital imagery and 3D.

TFA breaks no new ground. It retreads ANH in an inferior manner to the original.
