Ashita no Joe. The best thing Sports ever invented.
>Inbfr people say this is a ripoff of Rocky
Rocky was made in the later 1970's.
The manta began in the late 60's till the mid 70's.
The anime started in the early 1970's and ends in the early 1980's.

I was trying to tell you yesterday in/a/that I'm watching all of Andrei Tarkovsky, Eyes Wide Shut, Ingmar Bergman, Robert Bresson, and Federico Fellini.
I've seen Ivan's Childhood and I thought it was alright, but ended abruptly. I'm now watching Andrei Rublev and it is damn good. Though I think the subs suck dick in my version. In that the timing is off and they don't even sub some conversations.
>>63829130
I'm not saying that, but Ashita no Joe's English version translates this series to Rocky Joe. Which is 100% inaccurate. It's actually Tommorows Joe/Joe of Tomorrow.
A Short Film About Killing, Red Desert, Karami-ai
Elevator to the Gallows, Menace II Society, Eden and After
Alice in the cities, the spirit of the beehive, the seventh continent

Only Tarkovsky films I've seen were Solaris, Nostalghia, Sacrifice, Zerkalo and Stalker, out of watch I liked those last two the most. Zerkalo I loved for it's presention, the way the flow of things was structured and visualized but I mainly liked it just for that. Solaris was kind of a mess, it adapated a book in which a huge chunk is pure narrative (the protagnost reads pages on pages or reports) and it didn't really work since Tarkovsky mainly adapted the "action" on top of that he added elements of his own and didn't really adjust the rest of the plot to it keeping lots of elements just as they were in the book. Nostalghia and Sacrifice might have just been to subtle to me, I wasn't engaged at all. I guess I like his works that were more surreal, expressive and visually stimulating more. Well, those are the types of works I like more in general.
But I'm wondering what you'll think of his other works. I must check out Andrei Rublev myself.

>implying they aren't
What are, then?
>>63830791
I agree. I generally like more of his surreal films over his more literal adaptations. Andrei Rublev had some great scenes, but the translation was godawful and made me more confused by the end of the film. It has the artful shots that you would expect from Tark. Although I liked this more then Ivan's Childhood. It some how left me colder by the end of it. Stalker is definitely better. Rublev is on the same level as Solaris, but has a more religious and simplistic plot. Which isn't bad, but you should know what your in for.

Oh and also. Andrei Rublev has his best set design and costume designs in any of his films. It feels like what if Tark made Seventh Seal, but without all the mythological stuff happening and more realistic.
>>63828611
The Comedy is one of my favorite movies, really the captured the state of mind of those people. Great Basinski score too.
>>63830579
middle?
>>63831397
Is the pacing of Rublev similar to Solaris?
I absolutely loved the first half of Solaris, but after he sends the first visitor into a rocket the film kind of screeched to a halt and became mind-numbingly slow. I don't mind slow films at all, most of my favorites are boring by others' standards, but there was just way too little going on for me.
>>63831334
watch them all, make your own judgement
>>63831789
Nope. I believe it doesn't do that. Maybe near the end of the film in which there is a massive time skip, but it adds in an extra element that kept itself interesting. Though I would say the beginning is kinda confusing with the shit translation, because they didn't even bother to sub some sentences which is annoying.
The film is faster then both Solaris and Stalker in my opinion. In that once things start to roll in the first half. The second half becomes more and more fragmented as it time skips historical events that Rublev is in.
