I see your point, but this wasn't at all the same circumstances in which you saw Luke behave before. After the OT it said Luke trained the next wave of jedi, only to have shit go wrong with Luke being responsible. He basically created what was looking to be like the downfall of the galaxy. What was he to do in this situation? Train new jedi to fight them? Why would he risk doing that again given that it is exactly what led to the current problem? So instead he went to find the first jedi temple, most likely looking for answers. He probably wanted to make sure he could train more without losing them to the dark side, to find a way to save everyone.
Remember, he was also being hunted in the same way that caused Obi Wan and Yoda to go into hiding, so he did too. If he stayed with his friends he would put them even more in danger. If he died the light died with him. He told no one where he was going but left a map with R2D2 holding a significant portion of it. R2D2 was with Leia and the resistance so it's not like he fucking left it where anyone could find it, it was with safe with friends, also no one even knew R2 had it. R2 was probably instructed not to activate until there was a good enough reason to find Luke. The force awakening in a promising young girl is a pretty damn good reason

I thought the plot would be that Kylo Ren has the power of psychometry. Like if he were to touch an object of personal significance for you, he'd learn your personal history or form a psychic link with you. So if he finds Luke's old lightsaber, he'd be able to forge a psychic connection with him and discover his current location.
