The reason for black people's gibsmedats, which I agree is usually out of control and absurd, is because black people are still feeling the effects of discrimination. It was only 50 years ago that Jim Crowe was active in the south and neighborhood segregation active in the North. Then the war on drugs began and started affecting blacks disproportionately because the government arbitrarily set high penalties for crack and low penalties for cocaine.
