Good acting. His character could've been a disaster, I think making a comic relief around an antagonist may destroy his whole sinister act or giving him a though scene like the one on the bridge. He pulled off both much better than I thought some no name actor can under so much pressure from fans and suits alike.
Come to think of it, this movie had a lot of great acting. Finn was spot on, Rey pulled off some pretty hardcore crying on cue scenes and angry, rage faces. Even Han was on top of his game and didn't seem like he was phoning it in. Poe was rocky at first but he found his role within the story. I know it doesn't take a lot to put on a bear costume and make noises but even Chewy shit was spot fucking on and made him look more realistic and sympathetic. Carrie Fisher was the weakest link. She seemed like the only person who didn't wanna be there.
