Imagine this: much like Kylo Ren is Rey's rival, this fucker could have been Finn's rival. Over the course of three movies their rivalry could have been developed. Why was this one guy so fucking furious at Finn? How many of his friends were killed by Finn's betrayal? Who was he? What was his background, was he possibly already a soldier before becoming a storm trooper? Why was he so well trained despite being dressed like a common grunt?
He's defeated, but only left for dead. He survives and comes back in the next film. He's even gotten a promotion and has one of those shoulder things or some other identifying symbol to mark him as above a regular rank and file stormtrooper. We get a bit more of an explanation of why he hates Finn so badly. Maybe they even knew each other at one point. He still trounces Finn, but circumstances force him to retreat.
He comes back in the final film, promoted to Captain or some other high rank. The guy has become completely obsessed with killing Finn. He feels like he has to; he can still see the faces of his dead comrades leering at him out of the dark when he shuts his eyes. Maybe he even starts keeping a tally on his armor of all the fellow stormtroopers that have died because of Finn. By the time they have a proper rematch, Finn has gotten better. They're on equal terms now. But Finn doesn't try to be a Jedi--he fights his former comrade like a proper soldier in a pitched gun fight taking place over a wide area. Lots of cover usage, occasional brutal melees and grapples. By the end of it the helmet is off and they're exhausted and just fucking beating the shit out of each other with their bare hands while staggering and trying to stay upright.
Or something like that, fuck me, I don't know, there was potential to do something cool with this instead of having it be a one-off.
She will be used in the sequels - probably hunting down Rey and Co. to make up for her failure.
Why was she so quick to surrender though? One would think a loyal, high-ranking trooper would rather die than betray the empire.
