I've lost all hope in the intelligence of general audiences everywhere. My god, what happened to people and taste. How does Disney do it? It's like people are programmed to worship this shit.

it's normies

they literally just like whatever they're supposed to. they also can't stand ideas/people that aren't visibly shallow and doesn't fit in media approved boxes. they can only think about what's right in front of them. like a dumb dog who thinks the ball disappeared after you put it behind your back. I can see why they keep making stupid decisions, get knocked up, waste time at parties and do drugs. they don't have introspection or empathy whatsoever

Normalfaggots fuel everything that is evil in the world and there's too many to stop. Enjoy what you like and don't look forward to anything in the future.

I'm going to play TIE Fighter with my joystick now, JJ Abrams can't ruin that.
>>
It's funny how everybody with half a brain is saying exactly what I see here.
I asked my brother about Star Wars and this is what he said: "it's pure marketing and kind of scary how they have such control over people".

Don't take everything too seriously. It's just fun flick, nothing else. It's not supposed to be art, it's not supposed to be deep and it's not supposed to be intellectual. It's something you go watch with your friends, turn your brain off, enjoy the amounts of nostalgia and just have fun. Nothing more. And seeing it costs like less 0,5% of your monthly wage. So why not just watch it then?

Go see Star Wars: The Force Awakens™ four more times this weekend goy.

Don't forget to go to the Disney Store and buy your limited edition Captain Phasma™ die cast figure. She's a very strong, cool and mysterious character that you won't want to miss.

People used to have some standards though. See classic Hollywood. Hell, those intellectual 19th century novels were entertainment back then. Entertainment started to become dumber after Reagan and the neocons get rid of the anti-monopoly laws on mass media
>>

>after Reagan and the neocons get rid of the anti-monopoly laws on mass media
Really? I thought it was after Star Wars came out.
>>
It's biological. Most humans have the same hardware with similar programming. They just figure out what appeals to most people. To deny you're any different is to put yourself on pedestal.
>>
>>63805609
Just wait a year and then ask again.

I found the media hype glow from the prequels faded rather quickly and millennials are bad at remembering why they like shit in the first place.
>>
>>63806501
>19th century novels were entertainment
Not really. Mostly dime novels were then.
After that were the pulps. so you're still imagining a time that did not exist.
>>
>>63806501

> Entertainment started to become dumber after Reagan

Blaxploitation and the rise and fall of slasher movies happened way before then.
>>
>>63806528
History tend to be oversimplified by school books but actually changes happen for a series of events concentrated on a few years, it's not a single event.
>>
>>63805609

Starwars ingratiated itself in the american psyche and rest of the world at the right time.

No worries, it will lose its cultural significance if they keep with their plan to keep pumping these movies out.

Lucas giving a few years of a breather between movies is going to be long gone.

Its mind boggling how dumbed down everything is nowadays. I look at movies from the 70s and they actually have rational characters with thought provoking plots. Try to get any one of your friends to sit and watch a movie from the 60s or 70s and I guarantee they will get bored within 5 minutes.

>TL;DR normies have massive ADHD
>>
>>63806601
Oh and I forgot to add the reason for popular entertainment of dime novels, penny dreadfuls and pulp was because Books were a LUXURY item, and the only affordable ones to the masses were said items that were cheaply produced.
>>
>>63805818
>it's normies
I don't know about that
The ones here are all calling it disappointing
>>
>>63806606
Blaxploitation and slasher movies had a very low budget and they were showed on small theaters and auto-cinemas, they weren't global events of 200 million dollars like the modern blockbusters. In fact, the low budget allowed blaxploitation and slashers to do stuff the mainstream media couldn't do
>>
>>63806730
Novels were published by chapters on newspapers and they could run for years
>>
>>63806501
>Classic hollywood
>standards
Please, they cranked as much empty bullshit then as they do today. You're naive if you think Gone With the Wind or 12 Angry Men were the standards of quality, and not literal filler movies made to play at any theater just to have something to play

>Hell, those intellectual 19th century novels were entertainment back then
Dime novels about western adventures were popular, not Crime and Punishment. You also need to consider how low literacy rates were, and if "serious" books were read as entertainment its largely because the eductaed classes knew how to read and had the time/money too
>>
>>63805904
*25million not a lot compared to many other films
>>
>>63805818
As a former drug user and current alcoholic, I take offense to your implying that "normies" approve of such things; if that were true, I would not be a social pariah today. I am a lonely social outcast, left behind by all my former peers. Hardly a "normie". And I didn't like the new Star Wars either.

>implying
movies in the past didn't have instantaneous feedback and identity politics to pander to. they can actually tell a unique honest story by the filmmakers.

that's why everything is so bland. a movie never just a director's idea anymore (yeah I know its not just the director who writes shit you get the point)

100 percent spot on!

B-b-b-b-ut MUH CHILDHOOD
George Lucas fucking ruined it with prequels, I grew up with Han and Luke and Leia and he fucking ruined it and Vader by turning him fucking Christian Haydenson. Bobba Feet was literally badest ass and they just killed him by accident, lmao. Jar Jar was literally worst thing ever.
Disney is bringing it all back with style and class, we waited for a real new Star Wars for over 40 years and disney delivered. Muh magick of cinema, pupets are the best.

How about we just write it up to the Rock 'n' Roll generation?
That is where the massive disconnect between generations began. Where people came up with the idea that it's absolutely fine that the next generation wants to deal with the world in completely differnt ways compared to their parents, creating generational gaps in pop culture meaning since each generation had interests in different things compared to the last, no one got a chance to pass any wisdom on regarding a common interest, and thus castrating future generations' capability to see fiction in the same complex light as was slowly developed by each generation building upon the previous.

star wars was all about muh effects.

>>
>>63807727
I didn't see the OT until I was an adult and the dialogue and acting is pretty fucking bad in those movies, I was kind of suprised consdiering how revered they are. Return Of The Jedi was also a pretty shiity movie, Episode 3 is better than it.
>>
>>63807428
Yes, there was always trash but great movies could do well financially. Look at Gone with the Wind, Giant, The Godfather, etc.

Now the only movies that do well financially are generic, paper-thin tripe that capitalizes on the ADHD of people now: i.e. superhero movies, Bayformers, and Disney cartoons. Originality is no longer valued.

Nothing. You are romanticizing about the past you didn't even get to experience. The majority of the population has been consuming pulp since time immemorial and it's not about to change now that tool like viral marketing and social media exist.

Lol OP, I remember I had the EXACT same thought when Avatar came out, but now I've gotten a bit older and have more pity on the pleb masses, and have come to appreciate blockbusters. You will too in time.
