From Disneys point of view it makes sense to "rehash" ANH given the fact that this is the first SW movie for a lot of kids out there.

Is it really a major flaw though? I mean obviously not everyone's going to like it but I have trouble believing that people thought they would take a massive risk with the first star wars film of a new trilogy, especially when the prequels fucking sucked. The film seems to be a balance between old and new. It feels like an actual sequel to the original trilogy, both in plot and spirit, while also laying the groundwork for new characters and concepts which will be explored with greater depth in the next two films.
