It was actually filmed but than later edited on tape.
So it could be done in the same way Viacom did Star Trek the next generation and shout factory did for Pee-wees play house.
They would have to go into their vault find the original film and re-edit every single episode all over again.
If the studio believes it will make money they will spend the time and money to do it. If not the VHS quality is all we will ever see of the show.
