Besides, the show rarely if ever uses in show audio very well. The sandman shit from sleep no more was an out of place attempt to get a clever chuckle, the use of the lion sleeps tonight in rise of the cybermen was fucking stupid, and the use of the song from ahkatem(while the best of in episode audio) was largely forgettable and hardly any kind of musical pop song or flambouyant bullshit musical number.

A deus ex machina (in the modern, not Latin meaning of the word) is when an author has no idea how to resolve the story and ends up pulling a new element that solves everything out of his ass.
The point of The Christmas Invasion is that the other characters can't stop the alien invasion without the Doctor, and they don't know if they can trust him after he changed.
The Doctor proving himself by defeating the aliens is a logical ending, not a deus ex machina.

All the different Doctors are led into different traps due to following a flashing alert light on the TARDIS console.
This is all part of the Master's plan. The Master kills some guy's family in order to lure one of the Doctors into bringing the guy on board the TARDIS. When the guy says "This is impossible!" it triggers a device the Master had planted on him which causes the TARDIS to become impossible.
Immediately all of the different Doctors' companions vanish because he can never have met them. The Doctors all meet up and decide the only way to fix the situation is to time ram the Master with all of their TARDISes at once.
Then, the First Doctor wisely realises that if the alarm light on the TARDIS had never been activated, none of this would have happened. He turns the light off and the entire story is completely erased from time and all characters' memories.
