I recently rewatched A New Hope (haven't seen the rest of the OT again yet) and my favourite characters by far were Vader and the commander of the Death Star. Vader always seemed in charge and in control of the situation, when they get word that rebel fighters are attacking them, he tells two troopers "Come with me" and boards the TIE fighters. No tantrums, and when he's on screen you know he's a powerful presence. To me no amount of flashy lightning or lightsaber acrobatics can compensate for that. The other guy, while a bit of a dick, embodied military order and discipline. The closest to a likeable character for me now is General Hux, or ironically Rey, another character who doesn't lose her shit at every opportunity.

My take on this movie. Great visuals and special effects. Terrible story. It was trying too hard and wound up being Star Wars: Exreme. It was a remake of "A New Hope" with 90's edginess. It was as much a Star Wars movie as GI Joe Extreme was a GI Joe cartoon. I was so very disappointed with everything that wasn't the visuals or action.
Also, the SJW parade was in effect here. The movie was so conspicuous with it's placement of minorities. It's like "hey, this pilot is black! See how progressive we are! Vader went down in one shot by the Falcon in ANH, Obi-Wan let himself be defeated. He choked out that one dude and went down some corridors, choked an admiral. Everybody seems threatning with the right costume and nobody challenging him.
TESB is a bit better with the Luke duel but he still isn´t totally in control of that scene and except for that part he also just walks around ordering people and deflects a shot, again chokes people for no reason.
In ROTJ the duel with Luke is even more in favor to Luke outside of some lone moments and here we have the lowest amount of walking around corridors scenes and he doesn´t even choke a single dude.
He really is just the costume and he has had no real win, battles are always commanded by other imperial officers and his duels not really with weight. Come to think of it, he has as bad of a track record in fights as General Grievous in ROTS and TCW. It´s not even the flashyness of the prequels, Vader et all does barely anything.
