I see a lot of people often get frustrated by the lack of truly quality films, especially in the mainstream. I, personally, have noticed that more and more films in particular are getting more and more lazy with the writing and continuity. This seems to be why most people are frustrated, rather than shitty direction or cinematography it's poor plot advances that aren't concerned with realistic repercussions but just setting up the next big action scene.
Reading books however seems to fix all these problems as it allows the reader to direct the story in their minds in the perfect way they seem fit and it gives a much deeper sense of story with characters that are not one dimensional. The medium of film or even television can make it difficult to portray a truly complicated character as we're never shown the thought processes or motivations of characters so they must be shown on screen and out loud. The subtlety disappears and the more engaged viewer is left feeling a little insulted.
The truly superior story telling medium is books, yet so many here seem to be clinging on to more accessible but limited mediums such as television and film without wanting to put the effort into reading some of the classics and truly understand how great story telling can be. Don't you think it's maybe time you took the plunge /tv/?
>frustrated by the lack of truly quality films
Thats because these people aren't actually looking for quality films

YesI'm a faggot. I am enlightened

Wondering the same thing but with Japanese media. The West is shit as fuck, I can't comprehend you people.
>learn Japanese
>enjoy real stories with good writing
Done.
Books are for cucks
I used to read books.
Then I started drinking and moved onto anime.
Then reading the subtitles became too much of a bother so I moved onto English language film.
Once I became a full blown alcoholic I would often tune out, or just pass out, during films I really wanted to enjoy, so I turned to TV shows I didn't mind blacking out during, here and there.

Japan has been doing the old infantile media thing for decades at this point. The major plus points it has going for it is that you can see a nipple on screen and people won't have a shit-fit and start screaming.
For any red-blooded male, it's the country of choice for media, but it would be really nice to have actual stories that aren't "magic boy has infinite power" wish fulfilment over and over.

>would be really nice to have actual stories that aren't "magic boy has infinite power" wish fulfilment over and over
Dig deeper then, those are just the tip.

You can say the same about films and television, m8.
>watching films for story
Fuck outta here, pleb
>>63754024
I still watch movies and some TV stuff, it's not like I'm being a cliché weeab right now. My opinion is that it's easier to find good stuff from Japan (whether through manga, LN, VN, anime, w/e) than through Western stuff.
These past years, the only Western movie I've enjoyed was Her, rest was all shit. It hurts me when I see all you people fawning over some Batman shits. That one with Bane was horrible, doesn't even deserve a meme.

>>63754508
Why?
I started reading books because they were cheaper than movies, comics, anime, and manga. The added benefit is that they tend to be pretty damn good as well, although they make me feel stupid. I always feel I'm missing the authors message, theme, and all else when reading their work, those issues never arise when watching movies or TV for me.

Because contrary to /lit/s beliefs, you can enjoy more than one type of media.
Books are just an outdated form of entertainment that people used to enjoy back then because they had nothing else to do.
People nowadays read books just to feel like special snowflakes and because they actually believe that reading books make you smarter (they don't).

How about this: you can read books and watch films at the same time. Maybe even in the same day.
Wow.
I'm re-reading Percival but the symbolism eludes me
I'm only following the story because I watched the movie recently
it doesn't help that I only read for like 10 minutes before falling asleep after waiting for the very last moment to go to bed without falling alseep in front of the computer
I'll just read highschool-level guides after so I can feel I got it
