>let's cut a turbine engine in half
most retarded shit ive ever seen
and yes I know this was the original design
it was scrapped for a good reason
Who cares you autistic shit. Still mad your precious EU got scrapped?
>>63711459
hey reddit!
>>63711384
it's clearly a dyson
>>63711384
You do realize it's science fiction, right?
>>63711528
so its ok to be utterly retarded because MUH SCIFI? Faggot fuck you
>>63711459
>he cares about canon
*tips fedora*
>>63711528
>science fiction
>star wars
>let's put a turbine on a space ship
most retarded shit ive ever seen
>>63711528
Its not even sci-fi anymore, its pure fantasy set in a futuristic setting. Everything works there due to magic and nothing else.
>>63711553
You choose to be utterly retarded in real life, so why not in movies?
>>63711596
they're bussard collectors
>>63711384
How do you know its a turbine? What if its just an air intake?
>>63711611
what the fuck are you even saying you giant piece of shit
>>63711596
More retarded than this?
>>63711715
>skipping leg day
>>63711669
... aaaand you immediately prove my point.
>>63711805
>You choose to be utterly retarded in real life, so why not in movies?
Ok then you foreign cunt
shutup fatass
>>63711598
>anymore
>implying it ever was
Do you even know what science fiction is? Just because the setting has advanced technology doesn't mean it's science fiction. Star Wars was always an homage to old adventure serials. The story doesn't revolve around technology or man's relationship, the technology is a means to an end. That end being laser sword and gun fights and spaceship dogfights.
>>63711715
Looking at it now, there's about twenty different things about it that make no sense. It's as though someone decided to make the least useful vehicle conceivable as an art piece dedicated to the folly of trying anything.
>>63711596
at least those ones can spin.
The new ones cannot spin because they separate.
>>63711667
its got little turbine blades in it.
An intake would be more of a void
>>63711596
>implying X-Wings are never operated in-atmosphere
>doesn't know how to type
Most retarded shit I've ever seen.
>>63711932
Luke destroyed one by TRIPPING it.
All terrain my ass.
>>63711996
>at least those ones can spin.
It's a good trick and all, but what does the spinning do?
>>63712000
>air breathing turbines in a universe where anti-gravity devices are as common as the wheel
>didn't read the OP
most retarded shit ive ever seen
>>63711384
Maybe they're scoops instead of turbines, and the little blade looking bits don't spin but open/close like shutters.
>>63711384
Agreed. As much as I like ralph not everything was perfect
>>63712051
>It's a good trick and all, but what does the spinning do?
spinning forces more stuff in the intake and makes fighter noises.
The blades on TFA X-wing are just sitting there unable to spin. They would only reduce flow of ... I dunno, force energy that makes space fighters handle like a Spitfire.
All JJ and crew had to do was change McQuarrie's concept so the wing split didn't break the engines. but they lazily went with the dumb artist's first draft. And dumb first drafts are why prequels sucked.
>>63712051
heat displacement of the real engines
a cooling mechanism
>>63712185
The prequels may be shit but the design is GOAT though
>>63712185
>spinning forces more stuff in the intake and makes fighter noises.
Yeah, a lot of stuff can be found in the vacuum of space
inb4 ramjet, the density of interstellar particles is so low you'd need an aperture kilometers across going at near light speed to gather up any appreciable material
>>63712193
Wouldn't them being split increase the surface area for better heat radiation? What good is spinning for heat dissipation in a vacuum?
>>63712274
I'm pretty sure the designs of the prequels were revised, in part because they were so digitally reliant, and in part because george wasn't in direct and complete control of them, because he doesn't believe himself an artist.
And I agree their designs were great, using elements to show that things would evolve into the classic OT designs. The V-wing, the jedi fighters in ROTS, the ARC-170, venator star destroyers, were all good shit
>>63712326
it runs on midichlorians
>>63712326
can get an order of magnitude more stuff sucking by spinning than by blocking with stationary blades
Also, X-wings work in air and space. TIE's never flew in atmosphere in the good movies.
>>63712165
There you have it. The intake is a reverse thruster port and an electromagnetic generator.
We can assume these new ones serve the same function
>>63712702
actually no.
Officially they are "power intake manifolds" whatever that means....
Just admint it. The new xwing was just made to look neat and doesn't make a lick of sense.
>>63712434
>in part because they were so digitally reliant
When will this meme end?
>>63712697
>Also, X-wings work in air and space.
>air breathing turbines in a universe where anti-gravity devices are as common as the wheel
>>63712697
THEY ARE NOT TURBINES.
THEY ARE RETRO THRUSTERS
EVERY GOD DAMMED SHIP IN STAR WARS HAS REPULSORLIFTS ON IT SO THEY CAN HOVER.
Everyone in this thread is a raging aspie
>>63712960
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>63712697
>sending giant walking tanks without air support against the enemy
Yeah, TIEs not flying in the atmosphere sure made those movies better.
>>63711384
>I loved my totally forgettable post in another thread about this so much I decided to copy paste it into a new thread
Fuck off, you fucking manchild. Saged.
>>63712697
not turbines dude
>>63711715
>>63711932
It's an all-terrain troop transport. I kind of get the idea. It can be more heavily armored than an aircraft because it doesn't have to fly, and if it gets knock out/knocked down then the troops have a better chance of no dying.
Sure it got tripped, but that was a sort of a 1 in a million shot. Nothing should be able to get that close to those things without getting their shit pushed in.
The real question is why there seems to be no missiles at all in the starwars universe. If the AT-ATs had some sort of small SAM with radar/thermal tracking Luke would've been blown the fuck out. Why do they all rely so heavily on laser weapons? Did they never invent missiles?
>>63713425
>Why do they all rely so heavily on laser weapons? Did they never invent missiles?
Because targeting computers exist? I don't know.
They show missiles a lot in The clone wars
>>63713051
Considering it can go into space how would a turbine engine possibly work?
It's probably some futuristic ion assembly.
It's not a turbine it's fucking repulsor space magic you cuck
>>63711384
HELP I DONT KNOW WHAT FERRINGS ARE
>>63713425
There's tons of missiles in Star Wars, just not really shown in the OT. Probably because it was hard to make good looking missiles with 70's/80's special effects.
>>63712274
>prequel designs
>good
>>63713865
They wouldn't. that's my whole point.
