I was born in 1997, what is this? Did people actually pay to keep movies for a week?

I was born in the final month 1996 and I remember going to blockbuster all the time, hell I remember when they first got dvd's there, I went every weekend.
>>
>>63710851
Did you start having memory at 12?
>>
>>63710851
lmfao they did

Week long rentals were usually cheaper. And its more like you had the week to return it.
>>
There were different options: 1 day, 3 day, etc.

They also had video games a secret porno room.
>>
Yes idiot, is it so hard to imagine that there was a time before Netflix and Apple TV?
>>
Ask a guy who can identify reposts anything

Mmhh, going to Blockbuster to rent SNES games was comfy as fuck.
>>
>a week

lol

new movies were 1 day rentals and you had to bring it back or get charged a $5 late fee

it was so unbelievably jewed out, i'm glad they're fucking dead
>>

Social security number?
>>
People still pay to rent movies on Google, Amazon, iTunes. I don't see what the big deal is.
>>
>>63710851
be kind please rewind
>>
>>63711121
Even worse you only get the movie for that one time
>>
>>63711121
they don't charge late fees and you don't have to take time out of your day to bring a movie back before they close for the day

if they closed for the day and you put the movie in the return slot they'd still charge you a late fee because the movie wouldn't be back in the system until the following day. that's where they made most of their money, by fucking over people.

Basically it's just Redbox.

I know Blockbuster as a brand and the idea of the store is dead, but the purpose they serve is still alive. Just scaled down to vending machines.

Hollywood video was tits. 3 movies for 3 nights for $3, and that shit was knocked down to 99c if you had a coupon(which we always did as they gave them out like candy).
>>
it was 3 days for a new release
>>
>>63711292
>they don't charge late fees
i should hope not, what are you gonna do?
upload back the megabytes?

my blockbuster had new releases for 2 or 3 days and old ones were 5 or 7 days

now online/on demand places charge you the same amount to view it just once. which would be fine for me now, but as a kid i used to watch the shit out every movie i rented multiple times a day.

And I can assure you, whatever you rent online now is NOT going to be blu ray quality or have any special features
>>
There was something magical about being a kid grinding up money doing chores, going to the old video rental shop and spending way too long browsing, getting reccomendations from the dude at the counter, picking up some soft chips and flat coke and walking all the way home again to enjoy the shit out of that movie for a day.
>>
We still have a Jumbo Video in my town, has free popcorn, new video games and all kinds of stuff.
Seriously they have everything.

I stopped going a little while ago because I owe $20 though

Born in 1990. I grew up too poor to rent so I just borrowed from the small library that most people overlooked in favor for the huge county one a couple miles away. I always got the latest movies though I could only borrow them for 3 days and only 4 movies at a time.

Fuck Blockbuster, I went to Moovies. They had a bitchin' cow logo.
